The school district just released a plan to close several Philly public high schools, including a wonderful gem in our NW neighborhood -
Lankenau Environmental Science Magnet High School, where I love working as a teacher.
Lankenau is a special school situated on a large campus connecting us to the land of Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education, and Manatawna Urban Farm, where city students engage in land conservation, birding, hiking, landscaping, soil investigation, and so much more. Without our campus, the rich Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (AFNR) CTE program would be lost.
We are asking everyone in the community, not just our students and parents, to engage in the fight to keep our school open. If you could please help us by
signing our petition.
If you are willing to go a step further, we invite you to our in-person Student Showcase on Wednesday Feb. 4th at 3:30 as we highlight the amazing hands-on projects by our students, in anticipation for the Community Town Hall meeting that evening from 5-7pm - where the district is inviting anyone to speak in opposition of the closure. Even just attending as an anonymous face in the crowd helps us! Please reach out with any questions, and thank you neighbors.
