SIRI and ATIS standards

Guys,
I am studying Transportation standards for building a Public
Transportation solution. have come across couple of standards for
traveler information exchange - NTCIP Advanced Traveler Information
System (ATIS) and SIRI. I m not an expert on these standards - at a
high level ATIS seems to be more exhaustive but SIRI is being used by
quite a few transit agencies.
MTA is running pilot with SIRI. I am trying to understand the reason
behind selecting SIRI. possible to share this information?
