Health-checker for GTFS-RT

Are there any best practices or open source libraries which we can use to write a stand-alone health-checker for  GTFS-RT? 

As our infrastructure increasingly depends on this data source, we are looking for an automated way to 
(1) ensure that it is running/available
(2) proactively notify us if it's not

I imagine there are a range of potential options with a range of complexities. 
I'd even be open to 3rd party/hosted solutions.

Hi,
I've listed all the GTFS Realtime open-source projects I know of here:
The closest I know of to a turn-key solution are the Munin and Nagio Plugins under the OneBusAway project umbrella:

...but those are very dated at this point and I don't know if they are still usuable.

We built this Java project to run the gtfs-realtime-validator against a large number of feeds, fetching the URLs from OpenMobilityData.org (formerly TransitFeeds.com):

I wrote an article about this here:

It could be converted to a monitoring tool without too many modifications.
