Is the bus GTFS RT API key still required?

Hi all,

I noticed that you seem to be able to download the Bus GTFS RT Proto without including an API key. For example, you can just click the links on this page and the Proto files are downloaded: http://bt.mta.info/wiki/Developers/GTFSRt

Is this expected behavior and can we rely on this working going forward, or is it possible the API key will be required in the future again?
