I am trying to access the payment history of a regular MetroCard that I have been using. I have the physical MetroCard with me and thus have the PIN number. However, I'm not sure how to access this payment information (or whether it's possible to do so).

Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you in advance for time!

Hi -

If you want to do this sort of thing regularly, you should sign up for an EasyPayXpress MetroCard, which gives you an online account management tool where you can check your swipe history online.

I don't think it's possible with a regular MetroCard. If you want to double check, and you're in New York State, you should call 511 between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. and say "Subways and Buses" and then "MetroCard" to speak with a customer service rep.

Hi,

I'm not sure what you mean by PIN?

If you swipe at a standalone metrocard reader (not a vending machine
nor a turnstile) it will tell you the last date/time it was used.

Station agents at subway booths can get some more info (e.g. they
should be able to say where that last swipe was) but I'm not sure how
much more. (it's probably more than just the last swipe or two but
maybe limited to a certain time period or number of swipes or
screenfuls of data) I doubt a booth agent could print it out on paper
though. and how much they'll tell you probably varies quite a bit from
agent to agent.

If you don't have luck with 511 and you need this record for a court
proceeding then I guess it could probably be subpoenaed.

Station agents only see the last five or so transactions on the card (limited space on the magnetic strip).  If you are requesting information about a particular card, you should proceed with the 511 route.  As Aaron mentioned, EasyPay Xpress is probably the best way to track your transactions on the MVM, turnstiles, and bus usage; even when it is lost and you want to know where it went, the history is captured for viewability online on your account.
