When Do You Decay In League Of Legends

Hey everyone! Many of our League of Legends boosting clients are asking us whether they will decay if they boost to this or that rank, how does it work if they lose games at 0 LP and so on.

This is why I decided to make a short but informative blog post on all of these situations where you will never be in the dark again.

So without further ado, lets dig in.

How Placement Games Work in LoLYou can only play them if you're not ranked, which happens if you've never played Ranked before or if it's the beginning of a new season.

You'll have to play ten placement matches in each Ranked queue to lock in your starting tier or division.

If you played Ranked last season, you should know that all players go through a "soft reset" at the start of each season. This means that your new rank will probably be about a tier lower than it was at the end of the last season.

If you've never played Ranked before, your placement matches will be based on your normal MMR. You can't get any higher than Platinum I either, even if you were in one of the top tiers before.

You cannot lose League Points (LP) in placement matches! Instead, you'll just get 0 LP when you lose. But make sure you have a good internet connection because going AFK will also count as a loss in your rankings.

Summary:

- 10 placements

- Soft reset every season, about 1 tier lower than previous season

- If never played ranked, your MMR is your MMR from normals

- Max placement rank is Plat 1

- AFK or leave counts as a loss

How Promotions Work in LoLOnce you're in a division, you'll earn LP for every match you win and lose LP for every match you lose. When you reach 100 LP in a division, you will move up to the next division in the same tier. You'll even keep any LPs that are left over.

Unless, of course, you're in the top division (example: Gold I) of your current tier. Then it's time for promotions!

When you reach 100 LP in division I of any tier, you enter a promotion series. To move up to the next tier, you have to win three of the next five matches. If you succeed, you'll move up to division IV of the next level for 1 LP. If you fail, you'll need to get back to 100 LP before you can try again.

If you lose your promo series, you'll stay in the top division of your current tier and lose as much LP as you would have from your promo matches. For example, if you go two and three in your promos and gained 16 LP for each of the two wins and lost 15 LP for each of the three losses, your LP would be at 87. (You need 100 LP to enter promotions, so 100 + 16 + 16 + 15 + 15 + 15 = 87).

You can take as long as you want to finish your promotion series up to Platinum, but you only have 28 days to finish your promotion series at Diamond and 5 days to finish promotions at Master or higher.

Lastly, dodging a promo series counts as a loss, so it's always best to play it out.

Promo HelpIt's hard to fight your way up to 100 LP and then lose your promo series. But don't despair! If you reach your promotions again, you'll get a free win to start your series. If you lose your promotions twice in a row without dropping divisions, you can even get up to two free wins. The Helper starts over when you move to a lower division. But this sweet perk only applies to tiers up to Gold I, so you're on your own for promotions to Platinum and above.

If you decide to avoid a promo series match (which counts as a loss! ), you will NOT get a free promo helper win in your next series.

How Division Skipping WorksIf you stomp games and get 30 or more LP each time? Then your MMR is probably much higher than your rank. Because of this, Riot made it possible for these players to get to their real rank faster by skipping divisions and promotions.

If your skill level is much higher than your rank, you can skip a whole division when you reach 100 LP (for example, jumping from Silver IV to Silver II). If the difference is big enough, you may even be able to skip your tier promotions and go from Silver I to Gold IV without going through a series of promotions.

Just remember that if you jump from one tier to another, you will always end up in the lowest division of the next tier with 0 LP.

How Demotions and Decay Works in LoLDemotionsIf you lose more LP than you have now, you'll be down to 0 LP and could be demoted. To drop from Silver III to Silver IV, for example, you only need one loss at 0 LP. However, you'll still have enough LP left that you'll only need one or two wins to get back to where you were.

If you're in division IV, on the other hand, you can usually lose a few games before being sent to the next level below. How many losses it takes to get demoted depends on your MMR, so the best way to know if you're in danger of getting demoted is to look at your Ranked emblem under the Ranked tab.

A yellow warning icon means that you're getting close to being demoted, while a red icon means that you're about to be demoted. If you still lose at this point, you'll drop from Silver IV to Bronze I, which is the top division of the next tier down, and your LP will be set to 75.

DEMOTION PROTECTION

You just moved up to a new tier, and now you're worried that a loss or two will send you back down? Don't worry! Up until you reach Diamond, you can't be demoted for the first 10 games.

DecayDecay only happens to players in Diamond and higher, so you can skip this section if you're in Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum.

If too many days go by without a match in that queue, decay will set in, and you will lose a set amount of LP every day. You don't have to play every day, though. When you enter a division with decay, like Diamond+, you'll get a certain number of banked days. At the end of each day, you'll lose one of the days you've saved up. When your banked days run out, you will lose LP instead.

DIAMOND TIER

Banked Days per Match: 7

Maximum Banked Days: 28

Initial Days Before Decay: 28

LP Lost on Decay: 50

MASTER, GRANDMASTER, AND CHALLENGER TIERS

Banked Days per Match: 1

Maximum Banked Days: 14

Initial Days Before Decay: 14

LP Lost on Decay: 75

If decay causes you to have 0 or less LP, you'll be put in the next-lowest division. If you're already in division IV of your tier, you'll drop to the next tier below (ie. Diamond IV to Platinum I). But Apex Tier players who lose their rank because they haven't played in a while will drop to Diamond II, not Platinum I, and start their climb from there.

Also, remember that decay will still happen even if you're banned.

Exactly when does the decay kick in, as in when do I start losing LP? Right after midnight tonight, or in the middle of the day tomorrow, or at the exact time of the day as when I played my last solo q game 4 weeks ago? (e.g. if I played my last game at 20:44 at wednesday 4 weeks ago I will start losing LP at 20:44 tomorrow)?

We won't be resetting ratings, no. Players and teams will be seeded into a league based on a combination of their current and top ratings from the preseason. If you didn't play enough games in the preseason, then you'll be placed into a league when you finish your tenth game (or fifth game for a team).

If you fall below zero LP as a result of decay, you'll be placed into the next lowest division. If you're already in division V of your league, you'll fall into a new league in the next tier down (for example, Gold V to Silver I).

League names are purely cosmetic and are created by randomly pairing a champion's name with an appropriately epic plural noun. Some examples include Katarina's Assassins, Twisted Fate's Shadows and Vi's Brawlers. You can't change your league name or switch to another league; however you may change leagues when you move up or down into a new tier (e.g., Silver to Gold). If you happen to drop a division, you will go back to the League you were in earlier rather than a random one.

Elo decays over time when you are above 1400 after 4 weeks of inactivity at a rate of 25 per week in that particular queue. Each queue is separate so you have to play a 5v5 match to avoid decay in your 5v5 rating. It won't decay past 1400 rating.

Bedrolls have different decay rates for when you're just carrying them or using them ( sleeping or passing time ). Like every item, it's decay is dependent on the difficulty level you're playing in. Interloper should decay your bear bedroll at 0.5% per day of storing/carrying and 0.12% per hour of sleep/passing time, figures are halved for Stalker.

The decay rates don't really appear to be all that different. Where they do differ, I think it sort of compensates for the variance.

For example: the Bearskin Bedroll may decay slightly faster when not in use, but it decays slightly slower while being used (in comparison to the decay rates of the standard Bedroll).
