to Mt. Airy Dog Run
There's a ton of neighborhood support for the dog run, but now we need to mobilize and organize to make it happen. This is a grassroots effort and we need your help! There are many ways that you can participate.
***Help gather signatures on paper from the neighbors surrounding Pleasant Playground. This is a critical step before we can progress further. We will set a date to meet together, go over talking-points, divide up the blocks around the park, and canvass door-to-door. We are organizing this right now and hope to complete it by the end of August.
Figure out costs: Price the different items the park would need, fencing, water fountain, benches, etc., as well as ongoing costs for maintenance. We have a contact from the Roxborough Dog Park that has offered to help us.
Hang flyers in businesses around the neighborhood.
Set up a table at the pool or movie night at the playground, or other neighborhood events like Finally Friday.
Contact key organizations and ask for advice and support: Go Mt. Airy, East Mt. Airy Neighbors, Mt. Airy USA, Councilwoman Cindy Bass, Roxborough Dog Park etc.
Help present the proposal at the next Pleasant Playground Advisory Council meeting. They have been dormant since last October and I'm hoping they will start up monthly meetings again. If not, we can arrange a date with the park director and make the invitation.
Organize a pop-up dog run to get together dog owners in the corner of the park some early evening, grilling hot dogs. It could be a good way to start building community around the idea.
Fundraising? We're not there yet, but if you have any ideas or expertise it will be critical down the road.
Other ideas? Please share any thoughts you have!

Update: We're hoping to set a date for an informational community meeting at the park. We've proposed Tuesday, Sep 13th 6:30 to 7:30. Once we have the meeting set, we'll set up a canvassing date to collect signatures and invite neighbors to the meeting.
