git svn fetch failure on windows only

Hello all,

I am trying to git svn fetch the history of my project from a fairly
large corporate svn repository. I filter on the few branches which are
actually useful to me

On linux (ubuntu git version 1.7.4.1) I am able to complete the fetch
operation.
On windows with msysgit portable v 1.7.4 and 1.7.6 I get this :
RA layer request failed: REPORT request failed on '/!svn/vcc/default':
REPORT of '/!svn/vcc/default': Could not read response body:
Connection reset by peer (http://svn.mycorp.repo.com) at D:\Applis
\portablgit\1.7.6/libexec/git-core/git-svn line 5162

This happens while reading a revision which seems fairly large.

Do you have an idea what could cause this and more importantly how to
work around it ?

I encountered this when using git for windows with a slow svn server.
Large svn revisions, specifically merges, would encounter this
failure.
The solution was to increase the timeout on the subversion server
side.
