Would anyone have by chance a back issue of Fine Woodworking magazine that features a " Pencil-Post Bed " plans. I believe it might be from last year.

Here is a link to it.

Thx.

Hey, Gary
The article you are looking for is in issue #184 - May/June 2006.
I have a copy....You are welcome to borrow it.
Also, I have a request. I recently saw an article about finishing out
jewelry boxes (Lining with velvet, spray flocking, making "ring bars" &
dividers, etc.) I THOUGHT it was in Wood magazine, but I can't seem to find
it anywhere. Anyone know about it?

Thanks,
Cliff

Is our next meeting on Tuesday, 1/20?

Cliff,
If you happen upon it, I would like to see the jewelry box article as well.... as I have been making boxes as of late.  If anybody is interested, I put together a tutorial on flocking..... you can see it at this link....

Guys,

For those of you who missed last Tuesday's meeting, we were asked by Dave Snyder, Youth Minister at Summit, to help create a lighted sign and possibly a kiosk for their youth camp this summer.

For the sign, Dave wanted to have some kind of lighted sign for the message "Can You Hear Me Now?".  In the meeting, we had discussed building a large shadow-box type unit and making the letters by using lite-brite pegs with some light fixtures behind them.  Having kicked that idea around with my extremely crafty wife, who then talked with Dave this past Sunday morning at church, I don't think the lite-brite idea is feasible for the size sign we are talking about (approx 4' x 8').  Instead, my wife suggested cutting out the letters from a sheet of plywood and using colored cellophane (think heavy duty Saran Wrap in color) in those cutouts.  WIth a few flourescent fixtures behind it, it should give a pretty good amount of light.  And there are a lot of very bright cellophane options out there.

Anyway, the camp is the week of June 14th, so there isn't much time.  I know this coming weekend is a holiday and a lot of folks will be out of town.  I'm asking if anyone would be available this weekend (Sunday afternoon?? other times?) to meet at the church and work on the design (no real work just yet) of the lighted sign box and a stand for it.  I'll put together an initial design so we have something to get started throwing rocks at.  It needs to break down into transportable pieces that can be reassembled by non-woodworking folks.

If we can get a good design together this coming weekend, I'll suggest the following weekend as a get-together time for some actual wood cutting and assembly work.  That will leave one more weekend before camp for the youth to do the painting and possibly final assembly.

I'll also be asking for donations of materials.  Mostly 2x4s, a few sheets of plywood (one of which is 1/4 or 1/8 and light weight and stiff for the front cut-out), nails, screws, etc.  We'll also need a couple (3 or 4) flourescent fixtures for the box, although we might just go purchase those for consistency of light and ease of assembly.  After the design gets solidified, I'll put out a materials list for folks to see what they have to donate or would be willing to purchase for this project.

I'll talk with Dave Snyder later this week.  He had also mentioned wanting some type of kiosk, but was going to search some of the cellular stores to see if an old promotional item would be available.  If not, he'll need our help for that one as well.

Feedback and ideas are welcomed!

Thanks,

Mark Hall

Tom,

I had thought to try and meet this Sunday afternoon.  However, since I've not heard back from anyone else, I'll try and find you after the 9:45 service tomorrow and we can talk then for a few minutes.

Thanks,

Mark Hall
