Camp near Holly Spring Depot

ATTENTION  TO  ORDERS

1.       The previous order for a movement by all available forces to converge on Steak-n-Steak on Old Alabama Road shortly after dawn on the 15th Inst has been cancelled.

2.    On Saturday, the 22nd Inst. at 9:00 o’clock in the morning, all

Ironmen (S.S. Class) are to report at Summit Baptist Church near Moon Station.  We anticipate the arrival of some new recruits and are hopeful of some reinforcements from Capt. Bryan Buchanan’s Unit.

Two large wagons capable of carrying 14 men each will carry us to an Indian Village at Waleska and will depart by 9:15 for the crossroads of 108 and 140.

The use of these wagons, and the necessary peace offerings to the Indians, will cost $7.00 per man, payable in Yankee or Confederate currency on, or a week or two before boarding the wagons.  Payment can also be made on the day of the mission. Men riding their own mounts may pay only $6.00.

Part of our mission will be to closely observe a large cache of very specialized tools reported to be in the area.  A guide familiar with the local Indians will lead us to where the tools have been hidden.  Contact with the guide is set for 10:00 o’clock.

We don’t anticipate hostilities; but regardless, survivors, walking wounded and prisoners, as well as captured items useful to the cause, will be loaded into the wagons at 12 noon. We will move east on the plank road (140) to the village of Canton at the Etowah River, at which point foraging will be permitted by the hungry troops.  The wagons should arrive back at the Baptist Church by 3:00 o’clock, after a brief stop to feed and rest the horses.

R. Kimmer – F. L.

The courier’s horse has a lame leg.  In order to save your spot on the wagon, call 770/345-0246 no later than 19th Inst.
