Learn more about the new permanent exhibit set to open in Summer 2026

2026 marks the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the organization known today as the Center for Inquiry (CFI). In honor of this landmark celebration, CFI is excited to announce the upcoming debut of “The History of Freethought and Skepticism Gallery,” a new permanent exhibit at our Amherst, New York, headquarters.

The new, 3,000 square foot gallery will showcase the historical origins and modern manifestations of freethought and skepticism. CFI President and CEO Robyn Blumner promises the new exhibit “will provide visitors with an inspirational and informative introduction to the historical events and figures that put humanity on the road to freedom, progress, and prosperity by holding all ideas and dogmas up to the scrutiny of reason.”

“The gallery will be a testament to the remarkable, transformative power of freethought and skepticism,” Blumner said, “and how the work of CFI over its fifty years of existence has proven itself essential to that project.”

The gallery will feature several sections, organized by subject matter, that explore the history, ideas, and major figures in the development and promotion of freethought, religious criticism, skepticism, the scientific method, and exposing pseudoscience.

The Center for Inquiry’s Freethought and Skepticism Gallery was designed in collaboration with the award-winning designers of Tessellate Studio. Construction is now underway, with a planned completion date in Summer 2026. More information can be found online at centerforinquiry.org/gallery.
