·         Spread Chinese Culture at local school:

Engage with American elementary school children. Dear Students, Happy New Year/Spring Festival!  I am writing to inform you of a wonderful opportunity for native Chinese speakers and Chinese language learners to work together to share Chinese culture with a group of local elementary school children. I am currently seeking volunteers to participate in an event at a local elementary school teaching kindergarten age children about Chinese culture through interactive games and presentations.  The event would take place for approximately 90 minutes on the morning of Friday, February 26th from 9:30-11:00 at Marble Elementary School.   Students who choose to participate in this event would form a group with a small number of other students and prepare a 15-minute interactive activity designed to teach 5-6 year-old children about an aspect of Chinese culture and/or language.  Here are some ideas of activities that previous students have prepared: teach children how to use chopsticks and count to 5 in Chinese; play a game picking up and counting marshmallows to practice teach children Chinese words for basic body parts (head, arm, leg, etc.) and play a game of "Simon Says" to practice teach children about the panda and it's habitat and do an art activity (paper panda puppets, coloring page, etc.)teach children about the traditional craft of papercutting and help children to make a simple papercutting of their own teach children some basic Tai Chi teach children about the Chinese Zodiac and the names of some of the animals in Chinese and many more ideas . . . If you are interested in participating in this wonderful opportunity to practice your language skills and help Michigan children learn about Chinese culture, please respond to this email as soon as possible.  I just became aware of this opportunity and it is fast approaching, so it is important to get started right away. Please forward this email to anyone you think may be interested in participating in this activity (native speakers of Chinese or second language learners of Chinese). Sincerely, Alissa Cohen, ELC Faculty and Mentorship Coordinator. If you are interested, email coh...@msu.edu

Thanks,

Guangming
