Dear Mr. Ramesh

As you are aware India is currently engaged in the execution of numerous big ticket infrastructure projects such as ports, railway bridges, highway bridges, Jetties and Naval Bases across its coastal belt measuring a whopping 7,517 kilometres of which 5,423 kilometres are in south of India.

Given the importance of these structures and the quantum of funding involved in these projects it has becomes imperative that these concrete structures are adequately protected from their exposure to aggressive coastal and tropical conditions that would otherwise eventually lead to their premature deterioration, specifically corrosion, if appropriate technologies and techniques are not adopted.
Despite the fact that many advanced technologies are currently available in the country, only a few of them are being adopted thereby resulting in costly repair and rehabilitation budgets. Can we not stop this colossal waste?
With a view to disseminate valuable information on modern technologies and methods that are available today, the Indian Concrete Institute (ICI) in association with many prominent research and educational institutions, including Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai (IIT M), is organising a one day colloquium to address this very issue in depth. The colloquium will focus on providing insights on various performance specifications and practices for durability of these structures and also focus on various restorations techniques to save the already deteriorated structures. Experts from various educational institutions, research bodies and industries will share their expertise.

Er. E Shreedharan (Former Managing Director of DMRC) will set the tone of the deliberation by delivering the keynote address.

The event is being held in Kochi, Kerala that is renowned for its eternal coastal beauty and thus a natural choice for this prestigious event. The scope of the colloquium not only includes sharing of extremely valuable modern day practices but also an opportunity to explore God’s own country, Kerala.

Do join us and spend quality time with some of the best informed minds in these times.

Mr. K P Pradeep
