If the author downplays women in this novel, how do you think he does it through Dr. Valentini, Rinaldi and Henry? How does Hemingway Catherine, Helen and Miss Gage to invoke stereotypes of women and keep feminist vocal? As a young woman, are you offended by Catherine's statement towards the end of the book, "I'm having a child and that makes contended not to do anything?"

I believe the author might "downplay" women in other books of his. I am definitely offended by Catherine's statement about being a mother toward the end of the book. I do however believe that the author added this sort of theme to the book to stir the readers mind and grasp their attention. I am not sure if this is his actual opinion or just a part in his books.
