Hi MSSA Members, last night I went down to M.S. Harbor and noticed the Brookhaven Town has installed Parking Meter Stations all along the Marina Parking, Along the Beach Parking across from the Marina, the Beach Parking across from Ralphs Fishing Station and also a Parking Meter Station at the Fishing Pier Parking.

Did anyone hear more about this?

Will the Town hand out additional stickers for Marina parking and Dinghy Dock users to get to their moorings. Here's a good question. What if you are going on a Cruise for a week or two. Do you have to pay for parking for a extended period of time???

It appears, Brookhaven Town has installed parking meters to maybe pay for the new asphalt roadway????

Hello MSSA,
I just spoke with my contacts at the Town.  Anyone with a sticker can park in any parking spot.  You only need to pay the meter if you do not have a sticker.  In my opinion this is a good thing, now people going to the beach bar will need to actually pay to park like the rest of us.  And when we have guests who come to go out on our boats this will make it way easier, and hopefully cheaper to park and visit.

Hi All,

Thanks for the great information.

I assume this means that the parking fee for vehicles with out a sticker will be cancelled? So no more people manning the hut in the middle of the road? Maybe they can even remove the stop sign!

Barry

Lonnie and Carl:

I am very sure we have a town budget for Losquardo from our ½ MILLION residents and taxpayers and businesses that pay into with all kinds of fees and taxes and from  gasoline taxes that are supposed to fund all this stuff?  They also got State grants for the Miller Place Historic District sidewalks, paving and cross walks. etc etc.    As well the MSYC, Old Man’s, and Ralph’s and ALL our taxes/fees/etc get piled into the coffers!

I believe our money-grubbing Parks Dept is behind this latest “income” generator.  Like renting out the sports parks after having us pay for AstroTurf and lighting.  Ramp tax/fees, parking tax/fees, dingy rack tax/fee, mooring tax/fee, dingy dock tax/fee, per car parking tax/fee.

A very very sad money grab of and other stacked “tax”, fee, fines, and aggravation to taxpayers, visitors, and pushing down the middle and lower class with costs.

People from out of state visiting, out of Town sailboat crew volunteers, or somebody just dropping down to watch the sunset.

The ONLY thing left is to sell “beach” tags like NJ does at many beaches!!!  I am sure its coming.  Maybe a turnstile at each of the docks to have each visitor pay to pass?    (hope nobody from the town is lurking in here: I am giving them dumb ideas) <grimace>

The local Town Council-person who represents the area, and is herself a boater (at least her husband is) is Jane Bonner.  Perhaps rather than complaining to each other, the concerns and complaints being expressed here should be more appropriately addressed to her?
