Our first cruise of the season to Milford had ten boats signed up and high hopes all around. As the week progressed, however, the weather forecast took a turn—winds WNW averaging 13 mph with gusts up to 31 mph and a 90% chance of rain predicted for Saturday. Still, the fleet remained optimistic.

Unfortunately, Harvest Moon encountered mechanical issues and wouldn’t be ready in time, so we planned to join the cruiser’s party by ferry and Uber. By Thursday, with the weather looking increasingly unsettled, four boats decided to cancel their plans.

On Friday, three boats made the trip and reported a pleasant sail. Another three boats intended to depart on Saturday. Miya's crew opted out, finding the conditions too rough, and Carl decided not to make the journey solo—a wise call.

Blue Angel, with Captain Don and his two brothers aboard, departed at 10:00 a.m. Conditions were described as “sporty,” with NW winds over 20 knots and gusts hitting 40 knots. Apogee left the Port Jefferson mooring field in the early afternoon but turned back after encountering steady 24-knot winds (gusting to 30) and 3–5' seas with occasional larger swells and a short period between them—enough to make the crew uncomfortable.

Carl from Miya met up with us via the 1:15 p.m. ferry and an Uber to Milford Landing. We still managed to have a great cruiser’s party with twelve in attendance, enjoying good company despite the weather challenges. I've attached two pictures of the cruisers' party.

Sunday brought improved, though still breezy, conditions—making for a safer and more comfortable return trip for those who made the crossing.

A big thank-you to all who participated and adapted to the unpredictable spring weather. Here's to smoother sailing on our next outing!

Luna Sea and Aurai both came home today safely. Seas were still rough but both are back safely.

All in all, a great weekend.

Thank you Marianne for coordinating!!

Best!
