If ploidy=2, then samples 0 and 1 are combined to make the first one; 2 and 3 to make the second one, 4 and 5 to make the third one, etcetera.

Hi,
In the tskit API write_vcf() method, it says

If there is no individual data present in the tree sequence, synthetic individuals are created by combining adjacent samples, and the number of samples combined is equal to the specified ploidy value (1 by default).
I am wondering how is "adjacent samples" defined? Thanks!
