Excellent fun at the meeting last night. The Update Manager is
offering me the Karmic Koala...!

Hey,

it was good to have you! be wary of doing an upgrade through the
Update Manager, in my experience OS upgraders, regardless of the
platform, don't work very well. i always end up doing a fresh install.

give it a try tho it cant hurt.

Well IDK what OS we're talking about, but, a command line apt-get
dist-upgrade for debian/ubuntu is designed for exactly this, and as
long as you're not more than one release behind is very well tested,
and, in general, works very well. If you've a lot of manually
installed apps it will likely break those though.

Mike,

The first time I tried an update was with RedHat 5 or 6.  It failed miserably.  Haven't tried one since, unless the daily updates for gentoo count :) .. those work fine :)

Well, to be fair, you know RH5 or RH6 is like a decade ago or
something like that, right? It has gotten better. FC is still pretty
scary, but RHEL/RHAS is decent.
