Hey all,

I received two responses and it looks like Wed. Dec. 19th is the best date for the month. It might be a small meeting, but I'm looking forward to some linux talk anyway.

Many of the regulars won't be able to attend, so please offer opinions or ideas about what we can do for January's meeting before the end of next week, and then we can hold a vote if we need to on the 18th.

I'll get things started: I'm really interested in the gentoo install (soft g!). According to some of the more experienced group members, installing and running gentoo linux is one of the best ways to learn the OS. Looking at http://linuxreviews.org/gentoo/, it doesn't look like it is too difficult, but it could be very instructive. Apparently it's great for customizing and optimizing your system, and instead of using pre-compiled binaries, all source is compiled on the machine you're installing to. Frank and Seth are gentoo users and may be able to help with some instruction. How about it? Would you need a test machine?

Later.

Ryan

While probably not as functional in the end as gentoo; as far as pure learning experience goes its hard to beat Linux From Scratch. I've done it once or twice and the documentation is excellent. Probably to big of an undertaking for a meeting though, so more of an fyi at this point.
