Subject: IFG for PI - Annual Meeting in Hamburg
[cid:image0...@01CED166.08D9BD80]
6th annual meeting of International Focus Group for Process Integration
The members of the International Focus Group Process Integration (IFG for PI) gathered for their 6th annual face-to-face meeting at the SAP office in Hamburg on October 16. Present were (from left to right on the picture) Hans de Labije (the Netherlands) Constantino De Graeve (Belgium), Dr. Udo Paltzer (SAP), Holger Himmelmann (Germany), Ms. Sindhu Gangadharan (SAP), Rudy Claassen (the Netherlands), Daniel Graversen (SAP Mentor from Denmark), Emmanuel Thommerel (France), Hermann Steinrötter, Chair of the IFG for PI, and Frederik-Jan Roose (Belgium). Michal Krawczyk (SAP Mentor from Poland) joined the session remotely.
The group has remained virtually unchanged since the first meeting in 2008. So, this gathering was first and foremost a meeting of old friends sharing the same vision and passion. And what a great meeting it was! We looked back on a highly successful year where we took the IFG activities to the next level, such as a host of well-attended and well-received webinars, a first cycle in Customer Connection with very good results, and the best-ever participation in our annual Global Survey.
SAP roadmap
Dr. Udo Paltzer shared details on the release schedule, including SAP NetWeaver 7.31, 7.40, the B2B Add-on, and SAP Solution Manager. He also talked about the SAP HANA Cloud Integration solution. SAP Financial Services Network, a solution-based on SAP HANA Cloud Integration. Various enhancements to PI were discussed too. Finally, an overview was given of the Process Integration offering on-premise and in the cloud. During the presentation the question was raised by SAP if the IFG would like to expand their scope to be in sync with the integration portfolio of SAP.
Knowledge transfer
The attendance of the IFG for PI webinars has been more than satisfactory thusfar. Nevertheless, the participation from some regions leaves room for improvement. The group specifically expresses the wish to reach out to more PI users worldwide. We will try to communicate a calendar of IFG for PI webinars in 2014 which will give the user groups more time to inform their members about upcoming PI webinars.
The following webinars are programmed for 2014:
· Integration Visibility for PI
· Trade Partner Management
· SAP PI roadmap sessions (two, once every six months)
· Best-practice document on monitoring
Dates and times will follow as soon as possible. And, of course, other webinars can be added to his program if required.
Results of the 2013 Global Survey
Earlier this year the annual Global PI Survey was conducted. This survey was based on 23 general questions and 9 questions about the special topic Business to Business Integration (B2B) and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI). Thanks to the combined effort of the IFG members we collected more than 500 responses. A great success!
Some key findings:
· PI has a growing global user base
· It is used in business critical scenarios
· Monitoring/E2E Monitoring remains critical functionality/pain point
· Stability and performance rated as solid to excellent
· Stability and performance has been increasing in the last years
· EDI is a substantial/increasing part of PI functionality
During the meeting the following action items were determined:
· SAP will increase the level of communication regarding the existing monitoring capabilities by a step-by-guide and webinars.
· SAP and the IFG for PI will work on further detailed requirements for the next releases, e.g. by a roundtable session which will be organized shortly.
· The IFG for PI will update the existing best-practice document on monitoring.
Please find the survey results attached.
Roundtable meetings with SAP
Holger Himmelmann and Hermann Steinrötter will organize roundtable meetings with SAP on regression testing and monitoring. A summary of these sessions will be sent to you all. Thus, you will have the possibility to discuss the outcome of these sessions within your local communities and give feedback.
Product influencing – Customer Connection
For many years, the IFG for PI had its own product influencing process. This year, we decided to enter the Customer Connection program. No mean feat as it demanded an additional effort from both the members of our local user communities and IFG for PI members Holger Himmelmann and Pontus Borgström who were driving this effort. They had to ask local members to re-submit their development requests which in some cases took some persuasion. From our top twenty improvement requests, eleven requests were selected for evaluation. Four or those were rejected. Four requests will be dealt with in another manner, such as a roundtable session. And for no less than five improvement requests a solution will be rolled out in SAP NetWeaver 7.31 SP11 which is scheduled for March 2014. An excellent result!
We appreciate the need for our members to be informed about the next Customer Connection cycle and the possibility of entering their development requests before the formal kickoff of the cycle. We are working with Dr. Udo Paltzer and the Customer Connection people to make this happen.
Best-practice document on monitoring
We discussed the update of the best-practice document on monitoring. Given the importance of this topic we recognized the need for such an update. Therefore, a task force of IFG for PI members will meet to work on this document in Hamburg on January 15.
Scope of the IFG
Given the current technological development the group discussed the scope of the IFG. In the past, it was limited SAP PI. Given the current developments including cloud integration and the Application Integration Framework (AIF), to name just a few, we decided to broaden the scope and cover general process integration topics as well. Thanks to SAP Mentor Michal Krawczyk we found somebody within SAP who can bring us and the general PI community up to speed on the AIF during the next months.
Re-election of Chair
Never change a winning team! Therefore, we were really pleased to re-elect Hermann Steinrötter as Chair of the IFG for the period of one year. Hermann works for BP and is also Chair of the German Special Interest Group. Many congratulations, Hermann!
Next annual meeting
The next annual meeting will take place at the offices of the French User Group USF in Paris on October 1, 2014
On behalf of the IFG for PI,
Hans de Labije
