Dear Students
I hope you are all very happy with the increased time that is now made available to you for access of e-modules.
We are happy for you too.
I look forward to increased participation, better and quicker grasp of concepts in workshops and improved performance too.
I had mentioned in the curtain raiser session that we have about three video recordings of presentations, during the 2 yr course. We call this micro-teaching. It is intended to help you look at yourself objectively (on the screen!), be your own critic and evaluate yourself. While we give you feed back after every presentation in our workshops, looking at yourself on the screen does wonders to your self -improvement process - its a reality check! I was told that one video recording session of your presentation has already been done at an MSIT session
We will be video-recording one of your activities during the (C&K) workshop on cross-cultural issues.
I am stating below an activity that is common for all students across the six batches.
Please pay attention to all the details and ensure that you do a good job of it.
1. This is a group presentation activity
2. Each batch must have 4 groups of students ( 5 or 6 students in each group, as the case may be)
3. You may choose your own group.
4.You would represent an Indian organization as Senior Management members ( choose your own roles - VP-Finance, Marketing etc.,)
5. You will be required to make a formal presentation of a BUSINESS PROPOSAL or a PRODUCT YOU WOULD LIKE TO MARKET to an imaginary international client.( the faculty will represent that client) - Choose your company, its name, the product, its features, your strategy to present it and your designation & roles
6. Use this opportunity as a global communication platform.
7. The e-modules you will read suggest several aspects, like introductions, dress, greeting, communication strategies, body language etc., that you must pay attention to. Read them carefully and jot down some aspects that you would like to remember during your presentation.
8. Your presentation may include a maximum of 10 slides of Ppt if you wish.
9. The focus and evaluation will however be on verbal and non-verbal communication.
10.Remember that you represent an Indian organization and must project proper communication etiquette to an international client/partner.
11. Each team will get a maximum time of 10 mins.for the presentation (including time to get ready) - Plz ensure that your presentations are loaded in the system before the session starts.
12. All members of the team must take turns in making the presentation - about 1 1/2 mins each
13. The total time taken for this activity, including recording time should be 1 hr only for each batch. Be conscious of the time , as one video-camera will be shared by all three batches.
14. Students must take charge of the recording - decide & allot responsibilities before hand.
Batch 1: 9.30 am to 10.30 am
Batch 2: 10.45 am to 11.45 am
Batch 3: 12.00 to 1.00 pm
(AT IIIT we could start video-recording at 10.45 since we have only 2 batches in a day)
11.The parameters of evaluation will be:
GROUP EVALUATION
a.Effective group presentation procedure - introductions, courtesies, hand overs and takeovers of the platform etc. - 10 marks
INDIVIDUAL EVALUATION:
b. Clarity in communication
c. Formalities and etiquette of communicating across cultures.
d. Verbal and Nonverbal communication skills.
THE RESPECTIVE FACULTY WILL GIVE YOU FEED BACK ON YOUR PERFORMANCE, AFTER THE ENTIRE RECORDING IS OVER AND THE CAMERA IS HANDED OVER TO THE OTHER BATCH.
YOU MUST ALSO VIEW THE RECORDING LATER, FOR SELF EVALUATION.
I hope the instructions are clear.
Please discuss with each other before you call me if you have any doubts.
Your seniors have made similar presentations, you may consult them.
I hope you will incorporate all that you have learnt in all these workshops and delight us with superb presentations.
Remember... preparation, practice, practice, practice and PRACTICE is the KEY to success!
Wish you all the best
