Dear All,
It seems inevitable that some of the trees in our campus will have to be cut. A lot of it is related to a planned species overhaul (point 1 below). Some are also because they are coming in the way of essential constructions taking place in the Institute (pont 2 below).
1. Subabul species has been invasive in our campus. Its dominating and threatening the survival other species. Even the existing species also declining due to their short life span and vulnerability to pests and diseases. In this connection, the institute has decided to go for an over-haul of species in the campus i.e. replacing the existing ones with more useful and permanent trees progressively. This will be a passive transformation over the next 5 years. Care will be taken to maintain the net greenery of the campus. The whole process is being carried out under the expert supervision of Dr. S S Reddy, after due planning and discussion with experts.
2a. Three trees, which are coming in the way for the external chiller and cooling tower for the T-Hub, will probably have to be removed . The same are also marked in yellow paint at site.
2b. In the near future, several trees will probably have to be cut to construct the proposed Women's Hostel behind NBH & GH
The CSBC is in the loop and is looking into the possibility of saving as many of the trees as possible. What is essential can perhaps not be avoided, but we will definitely ensure that for every tree that is cut, we should plant and nurture at least two trees which are appropriately located.
If there are any suggestions, please feel free to mail them to me, with cc to all those who are in cc in this mail. Please do not reply to all.
Thanks and Regards
Abhijit
