To create such a staircase today using power tools and modern hand tools would be a feat. It's mind-boggling to think about constructing such a marvel with crude hand tools, no electricity and minimal resources.

Let me explain. If you live in a house with a wood floor system, the floor you walk on each day supports you. The system is made up of joists and wood that covers the joists. The floor joists under your feet are beams not unlike steel I-beams in a skyscraper.
In a typical system, these beams or floor joists run parallel to one another on 16-inch centers. The joists are covered with plywood or other wood sheeting. The joists rest on a foundation wall or, in some cases, another beam that rests on a wall. The weight of the system and anything on it is transferred to the foundation by the joists.
Imagine if you had a narrow floor, meaning just two joists, and you covered these with plywood. This would be very similar to a narrow footbridge. You could walk across it, and the platform or bridge would not collapse.
The normal staircase in your home is just like this, but instead of a ramp, the builder made flat steps, or treads, so you could climb it without slipping or sliding. A simple staircase has two beams, called stringers, and the treads of the staircase rest on these beams or are connected to them.
The stair treads are no different from the wood that covers a flat floor. When the carpenter set your steps in place, the weight of the staircase was transferred to where the two stringers touch the floor.
The only difference with the staircase at the Loretto Chapel is that these beams or stringers have been twisted into a helix. If you just allowed the inner and outer stringers to stand there by themselves, they would do so like the flagpole outdoors on the plaza, even though each stringer is made up of several pieces of wood glued and pegged together. It's that simple. It's not a miracle at all.

The miracle question is a popular intervention in Solution-Focused Therapy. It asks the client to imagine and discuss a possible world where problems are removed and issues addressed (Strong & Pyle, 2009).
The miracle question prompts and motivates negotiation between therapist and client. When introduced into the session, it typically offers a departure from the prior dialogue. The conversation then proceeds to work out the full meaning of the answer given (Strong & Pyle, 2009).
When the client considers the question, it generates new dialogue with the therapist with the miracle as a clear focus. Whether a starting point or later in the interview, it introduces (or reintroduces) further potential for growth into the conversation (Strong & Pyle, 2009).
The client becomes more active and potentially more engaged in the therapeutic process, constructing and negotiating valuable meanings and insights while showing that they wish to benefit from the discussion.
Language becomes more than a tool for understanding. The process of asking, sharing, and understanding the miracle question communicates experiences and wishes between the speaker and the listener (Strong & Pyle, 2009).
It is important to remember that while initiated as a single question, the broader process of creating a vision of what life could be like may require an entire session. Furthermore, it takes skill to pose follow-up questions, yet it is worthwhile, as it involves building more detail and meaning through elaboration (Stith et al., 2010).
Learning to use the miracle question positively in groups to generate conversation and progress requires a little more thought. It becomes even more critical to phrase the question well, create goals, engage, find exceptions to the problems, remain patient, and respond to each client in the group constructively (Stith et al., 2010).

The potential of the miracle question comes from its ability to create understanding and the awareness it generates through ongoing dialogue. Such questions talk new and additional meaning into being and help shape the therapeutic outcome (Strong & Pyle, 2009).
Research into asking and answering the miracle question shows it creates dialogue through negotiation. The meaning is constructed between client and therapist socially, while they responsively negotiate what they say and how they say it (Strong & Pyle, 2009).

Designer Receptors Exclusively Activated by Designer Drug (DREADD) technology is the main chemogenetic technique in use. DREADDs are modified G-protein coupled receptors, a type of receptor naturally found in humans that are usually responsible for slower, but longer-lasting cellular signalling. DREADDs work because they prefer to be activated by synthetic compounds instead of naturally circulating molecules in the body. Usually, DREADDS are selectively activated by a molecule called clozapine-N-Oxide (CNO).
Furthermore, chemogenetics have successfully been used to model drug-resistant epilepsy in preclinical trials. In this model, seizures are caused from a discrete brain area and are currently treated predominantly by resective surgery, which involves the removal of the brain area causing the seizures. While chemogenetics are an undeniably useful tool, they come with caveats that should not be forgotten.
For example, chemogenetics are not effective for treating diseases with complicated underlying causes. Chemogenetic tools are specific and have high spatial resolution, but they are not ideal for investigating neuropsychiatric disorders, which often have a complex origin. While chemogenetics has been able to reverse certain deficits associated with neuropsychiatric conditions, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), chemogenetics has not been able to uncover the main cause or attempt to fully cure these diseases. This means that chemogenetics can only help to find a cure for simpler conditions with a clear cause.
