A ghost song!!! And what a melody!

Now you all might be wondering, "What's this guy up to? We gave him a list, he totally ignores it and translates anything he can find".

Listen to this song and tell me if I made a wrong choice.

Song: Mere mehboob na ja
Movie: Noor Mahal
Singer: Suman Kalyanpur
Lyrics: Saba Afghani
Music: Jaani Babu Qawwal

mere mehboob na ja
aaj ki raat na ja
hone waali hain seher
thodi der aur theher

dekh kitna haseen mausam hai
har taraf ik ajeeb aalam hai
jalwe is tarha aaj nikhre hain

is tarah mat ja yoon hi sone de
raat dhalne de subah hone de
raat dhalne de subah hone de

is tarah pher kar nazar mujh se
door jaayega tu agar mujhse
chaandni se bhi aag barsegi
shamma bhi roshni ko tarsegi
shamma bhi roshni ko tarsegi

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

O beloved, please do not go
In this night  please do not go
It'll be dawn pretty soon,
Hence dearest, tarry awhile

Look, what a lovely season it is
There's a bizarre charm all around
Today is embellished with
Stars strewn all over the ground

I've spent days in anticipation
Finally the days of spring came by
Do not go away blotting out the flame in my heart
I haven't yet beheld you to my heart's content

Ever since you got the shade of my tresses
Your disquietude has had some slumber
Don't leave in this fashion, let sleeping things sleep
Let the night get over, let the morn fall in

If you turn your eyes away from me in this way
And distance yourself from me
Fire will emanate from the moonlight
Expunged lamps will begin pining for effulgence

No dispute about the song Suresh, beautiful one.
Let me see/listen to it first and then read
My only worry is that you'll scare off Kuttyettan who is getting  ready with a rose in his hand
to sing a romantic melody to Kuttyedathi

Ha ha ha!!!! No Jayashree, I will not scare him off. I have already depressed him with many a sad song, and now is the time to make amends.

Yes Sunny, those are lines that touched my heart. Wish I could see the movie to comprehend the underlying pathos!

I've never heard of this lyricist...He must be from the school of urdu ghazals....Even  the music director is an unknown name to me...

Sunny, same case with me. I got the chance to listen to this song during my schooldays (thanks to Vividh Bharathi), but I never knew the details (movie, lyricist, etc)

For the raaga enthusiasts, I say this could be Kalavathi in Hindusthani music, a cousin of our Valachi.

It is the romantic week here - Valentine's Day soon. The radio was announcing bargains in diamonds, dresses...

Agreed! Hereafter only romantic songs for a week!!! Once the celebrations are over, it'll be the melancholic ones, for obvious reasons!

By the way, have you ever wondered? That Children's Day (Nov 14th) falls exactly 9 months after Valentine's Day?
