Start of the romantic season...

I failed to get a decent set of lyrics from the net, so I had to write the lines down myself (not something I like to do)

Song: Tere husn ki kya taareef karoon
Movie: Leader (1964)
Singers: Mohd. Rafi & Lata Mangeshkar
Lyrics: Shakeel Badayuni
Music: Naushad

Rafi:
Tere husn ki kya taareef karoon
Kuch kahte huey bhi darta hoon
Kahi bhool se tu na samajh baithe
Ki main tujh se mohabbat karta hoon

Lata:
Mere dil mein kasak si hoti hain
Teri raah se jab main guzarti hoon
Is baat se yeh na samajh lena
Ke main tujh se mohabbat karti hoon

Rafi:
Teri baaton mein geeton ki sargam
Teri chaal mein paayal ki chham chham
Koi dekh le tujh ko ek nazar
Mar jaaye teri aankhon ki kasam
Main bhi hoon ajab ik deewana
Marta hoon na aahen bharta hoon
Kahi bhool se tu na samajh baithe
Ki main tujh se mohabbat karta hoon

Lata:
Mere saamne jab tu aata hain
Jee dhak se mera ho jaata hain
Leti hain tamanna angdaayi
Dil jaane kahaan kho jaata hain
Mahsoos yeh hota hain mujh ko
Jaise main tera dum bharti hoon
Is baat se yeh na samajh lena
Ke main tujh se mohabbat karti hoon

----------------------------------------------------------

Rafi:
What shall I say extolling your beauty
I fear mentioning anything about it,
In case you get the erroneous feeling
That I happen to be in love with you

Lata:
There are flutters in my heart
When I walk along your path
But from this, don't ever conclude
That I happen to be in love with you

Rafi:
Your talk is filled with musical jingles
Your walk, with the resonance of trinkets
If someone spares a glance at you
He'll die for you, I swear by your eyes!
I'm a strange kind of a mad admirer,
I neither die nor give up a sigh
However, don't ever think that
I happen to be in love with you

Lata:
Whenever you are before me
My heart goes about beating faster
The desires take a twirl
The heart gets lost somewhere
I keep on feeling that
I'm filling you with lifeblood
However, don't ever sense that
I happen to be in love with you

Ohhh this is what the song is all about?!!
I never understood it was the playful business of denying to affirm.
Thanks sooo much  Suresh. Though I could grab the meaning of the lines here and there,
the underlying thread was fully lost upon me.
Thank god! Now you have rediscovered the song for me.
It would have been a shame if I had lost the soul of such a beautiful composition!

is ' desires take a twirl' the literal translation of
'Leti hain tamanna angdaayi' ?
In any case it is brilliant!

I've seen a lot of people getting confused with these lines. Shakeel never intended to confuse the listener.

As for the 'twirl' that's a twist from me. I couldn't find a proper translation of 'angdaayi'. Anyway, I made sure the meaning was not lost.

I have not heard this song before, Suresh.  I like the denial style - I shall listen. Thanks.

You will not enjoy the translation, as the Hindi lyrics are too good!!!

My Hindi learned in a little village high school half a century ago is not good enough for that.  Without your help, I might admire the door but not get into the room!

Sir, the problem is that there is no exact English translation possible for many an expression in Hindi. I've been tearing my hair in desperation more often than not. If this continues, I'll be bald in no time!

So that you can blame the helmet for the hair loss?
