The Small Earth Nepal (SEN) is pleased to share the proceeding of the Graduates’ Workshop on Wetlands, organized on 2 February 2011 to celebrate the World Wetlands Day with the theme ‘Wetlands and Forest’. The workshop was jointly organized by SEN and the Central Department of Environmental Science (CDES), Tribhuvan University at Nepal Tourism Board, Kathmandu. The workshop aimed to providing platform to young researchers to present their research activities and capacitate and motivate graduates for further researches in this field through the interaction with experts.
In the workshop, eight research papers were presented in different aspects of wetlands of Nepal. Three papers were presented by scientists/experts and five papers were presented by university students. Expert presenters were Dr. Dinesh Raj Bhuju, Chief, Faculty of Science in Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), Mr. Ukesh Raj Bhuju, Consulting Advisor of National Lake Conservation Development Committee (NLCDC) and Coordinator of National College, and Mr. Sailendra Pokharel, Coordinator of NLCDC. The workshop was chaired by Prof. Dr. Surya Ratna Gubhaju from Central Department of Zoology, Tribhuvan University. The program was attended by more than 60 graduate students from half dozens of colleges in the Kathmandu Valley and beyond.
The workshop was concluded with the message that there exists research gap that needs to be addressed at earliest to make the researches on wetlands more systematic so that the knowledge sharing would be wider among all the young researchers, graduates, and stakeholders.
At this moment, we would like to extend our sincere thank to the program and publication supporter WWF Nepal Program. Similarly, we are thankful to the program supporters NAST and NLCDC and all the presenters, contributors, and supporters to the workshop and this publication.
