Alaikum Brothers and Sisters,

As you might be aware, the Swine Flu pandemic has spread with more possible cases throughout the State of Wisconsin.  The other day a possible case of Swine Flu was reported at Riverside High School, just blocks from the Musalla resulting in the school being temporarily closed.

Due to the close proximity of these instances occuring on Milwaukee's north side, we ask that you take the following precautionary measures:

Swine Flu Pandemic

We pray that you and your family are healthy. Given the heightened concern for pandemic swine flu, we feel it is important to review some measures to keep everyone healthy.

1. Wash your hands often. This is the single best way to protect against the transmission of viral illness like the flu.
2. Alcohol based hand gels can be used if soap and water are not available.
3. Persons can transmit the flu virus up to 7 days after feeling ill and may have transmitted it 1 day prior to getting ill. Please cover up when you sneeze and discard the tissue immediately. Sneezing and coughing are the most common method of disease transmission for the flu. It is a respiratory illness that can be transmitted from human to human at this time.
4. If you are sick, that is, you have fevers, cough, sore throat, body aches, runny nose, please limit your contact with others and consider seeking medical attention. Antiviral medication started early might help reduce the severity of your illness.
5. If you must go out and you are ill, please make sure to wear a mask that covers both your nose and mouth.
6. Avoid Aspirin or aspirin-containing products for children 18 years or younger (aspirin may cause Reye Syndrome in children). Use Tylenol or Motrin instead.
7.    Isolate any member of your family with the flu in a private room, provide their own towels, cups, utensils and dishes.
8.    If you have to visit an ill relative or have to get close to them you should wear disposable gloves, gown, eye shield and mask, remove them before leaving the room and dispose of them in a plastic garbage bag.
9.    Observe respiratory hygiene at all times. Cover the nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing with tissue, throw the tissue in the trash, then wash hands with soap.
10.    Avoid hand shakes, hugs and kisses unless you are sure that the person is not ill.
11.    To disinfect any contaminated object, use 5% Lysol or 10% bleach.
12. Keep a distance of at least 6 feet from any ill person because the virus is airborne.

Insha’Allah, we pray for the health and well being of each and every one of you.  Please help make this process easier for everyone by taking appropriate measures if you are ill.
