Muslim Students Association (MSA) & Women In Islam (WII) invites everyone to the event:

Going Green: A Muslim Perspective

The Universe is enormous and filled with a diversity of life forms. This is a wonderful sign of the creator's greatness. Each thing that God has created has wisdom and purpose behind it.

God says in the Qu'ran:

“We have not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them carelessly. We have not created them but for truth.” (Quran 44:38-39)

In Islam, all created beings are created to serve God. Each element benefits each other if they perform their role leading to a cohesive society. Humans are a distinct part of the universe in that they have a special position among the other elements. Humans are the 'managers' of the earth because the resources upon which life depends are placed in our care.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged people to work hard to maintain the earth. This is evident as the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said,

“If any Muslim plants a tree or sows a field, and a human, bird or animal eats from it, it shall be reckoned as charity from him.”
(Saheeh Muslim)

Today, there is much concern of the effects of pollution, global warming, and climate change on our environment. Actions are taking place, but there needs to be a greater and more widespread effort.

Come join us as we try to think, and implement new ways of building environmental sustainability in our campuses.
