________________________ Assalamu Alaykum WaRahmatullah WaBarakatuh. "Peace, Blessings and Mercy of Allah (swt) be upon you" _______________________________________________ Muslim Students Association (MSA) of Baruch College invites everyone to the event: The Importance of Family in Islam In today’s society, an individual is regarded as the basic unit of society. One is free to do what one wants, and when on wants, because one is considered free to live one’s own life. In Islam, on the other hand, one is not allowed to be just an individual, but take into account the natural bonds among humans. The most natural unit of society is family. Many laws in Islam are geared towards preserving the institution of the family. The Holy Qu’ran states: "They ask you as to what they should spend. Say: Whatever wealth you spend, it is for the parents and the near of kin and the orphans and the needy and the wayfarer, and whatever good you do, Allah surely knows it." (2:215) "And serve Allah and do not associate any thing with Him and be good to the parents and to the near of kin and the orphans and the needy and the neighbor of (your) kin and the alien neighbor, and the companion in a journey and the wayfarer and those whom your right hands possess; surely Allah does not love him who is proud, boastful." (4:36) The Muslim family is not just centered around a husband, wife, and children, but extended to include relatives as well. A Muslim is required to maintain a close and caring relationship with kin. COME JOIN US as we learn how we can maintain and strengthen ties of kinship Day& Date: Thursday, November 17, 2011.
