Hey ladies!

I figured I'd start a new thread for updates :)

Congrats Mihika on your job!! I hope you enjoy it and I know you'll do great things!

As for me, I'm still searching for a job. I'm doing a 2 week project as a trial with a company right now and hoping it leads to an offer. No one ever told us looking for a job would be a full time job itself lol, but I'm sure it'll all work out in the end :)

If you ladies are in or close to Toronto, we should meet up on the weekend! Grab some coffee or lunch, like our old design meetings :)

Miss you ladies, and hope you're doing well!

Suhaila

Hey ladies!

So sorry I didn't email sooner but yes feel free to email them our report. Their project seems quite cool! I'd love to see the final product too!

How are you girls? Anything new and interesting going on? What are you ladies up to? I actually have some good news on my end, I finally got a job! I started working at Konrad Group a small company in Toronto as a technology and strategy consultant.

Hope you ladies are well! Miss you girls!

And I have no problem sending along the report if it helps them figure out how to go about the project.

On a side note: how do you ladies feel about tossing around ideas still? It may not lead to anything, but on the off chance that we come up with a good idea that we can move forward with, I'd love to work with both of you again!

Cheers!

I bet you were thinking you were done with school and wouldn't have to think about this project anymore.

I've been contacted by Aisha from the current 4th year SYDE class and she is looking for advise about how we went about our project. Apparently Gorbet told her to reach out to us and see if we would share our final report with her.

How do you feel about me sending it to her? They are working on making furniture that collapses into packing boxes.

Way to go Mihika on the new job! How are you finding it?

How does the trial work Suhaila? Is it kind of like a short term contract? Is that sort of thing paid?

I thought that it was easy trying to find a job while at school, jobmine made it easy, now that I'm searching through all sorts of other job boards its not a lot of fun.

I currently have a lot of free time, my Scouting life is currently frustrating me so I can make a trip down to Toronto almost any day.

Cheers,
Rachel

Hey ladies!

To answer your question Rachel, yes it's basically a part-time contract that's paid. I just finished the project I was doing, presented today, and should know tomorrow if I get the job. I'm a little nervous lol

Other than that, I've been doing a bit of freelancing over the summer. I worked with a couple start-up in the area and helped design their products (including helping design TrendRadius' website). I really enjoyed the work and it's really interesting to work on different products. Plus I learn a lot each time. I can see myself doing this full time in the future :)

And yes, looking for a full time job and interviewing in the real world is very different from Jobmine and co-op. It was almost too easy when we were in school lol. Then again, it was short term work, so we weren't as picky and employers could afford to take a chance on us. I hope things work out and you find a job soon Rachel! Hang in there and keep applying :)

How are things going at your new job Mihika? Hope you've settled in and are enjoying your work :)

Oh here's piece of random news: my little sister joined Girl's Guide (which I understand is the girls-only equivalent to Scouts?). She went to a weekend retread a month back or so and had a lot of fun. Now she's selling cookies. I've heard the mint chocolate ones are delish, so I might have to get a box from her.

Also, I might be coming to Toronto this weekend (if my sister isn't coming home; she's on co-op in Toronto right now). I'll keep you ladies updated and hopefully we can have a reunion soon!

Cheers!

Hi ladies,

I completely forgot to respond! So sorry about that!

Suhaila, sounds interesting that a company would bring you on for a project and then decide if or not they hire you! I had no idea that companies do that! Anyways, I'm sure, as per the usual, that you rocked this presentation/project and I really hope you get the job! My fingers are crossed for ya! Freelancing sounds fun as well! Did the TrendRadius boys turn it into a full-time gig? Good for them!

Rachel, I bet you're going to find an awesome job! You've always been so good at interviews and all that jazz! I have no doubt you'll get something great. I do agree that full-time applications are so much more difficult and frustrating though! I applied to so many jobs this summer and I'm starting to hear back from them now! Almost 3 months later. What's the point now? Lol!

As for me, the job is great! I'm actually really loving the job and the startup/small company culture! Now I know why you were always rooting for small companies Suhaila hah.

I'm always in Toronto! Let me know when you girls are here and maybe we can plan a date. :) If all else fails, we can use one of those online meeting time things :)

Hey ladies!

Some good news: I got the offer and am officially a designer at Kik :)

It was interesting doing the part-time project. I think it makes sense for startups/small companies so they can make sure its a good fit on both sides. I actually enjoyed it, even tho it felt like a long interview process. But it was good to get a feel for what I'd be working on and see how the company works.

And I'm glad you like the startup culture Mihika! I like that things move quicker and there's always something new to work on. Especially since we're used to shifting gears every 4 months. Kik's pretty small too (35 people including 10 co-ops).

And yes, the TrendRadius guys are working on it full-time now! I'm excited for them and can't wait to see their product in action.

My weekends are pretty open, so I can come down at any time. I'm thinking of coming this Saturday since my sister's staying in Toronto for the weekend. Let me know if this weekend works for you ladies!

Cheers!
