Hello,

Mrs. Bourne mentioned that antibiotics would speed up the fight against the current bug/cold going around the school, based on her first-hand experience and observation.  Apparently some GPs would insist it’s a virus and refuse to prescribe.  Those who let nature takes its course will likely keep the nasty cough for couple/several weeks.  Does anyone know of a GP who would be more accommodating and would not mind sending me the contact details?

Thanks, really appreciate it.

Euanne x.

Hi all, I'd be surprised if you will find a doctor willing to prescribe antibiotics for a viral infection; there is more and more resistance to antibiotics in the western world caused in part by patients failing to complete the full course prescribed, and part by plain over use and every doctor I now is vigorously opposed to prescribing antibiotics unless they are really necessary, because antibiotic resistance is the force behind MRSA and other horrors.

Don't hate me; I know I am adopting a slightly lecturing tone here, and that I am not a doctor (but then nor is Mrs Bourne!), but this is a subject I feel quite strongly about!

Euanne,
Unless Jou Myu has a secondary, bacterial infection, the antibiotics won't help speed along a viral one. That's why your GP won't prescribe an antibio if he is sure it is a virus-they don't do a thing for them.  If it makes you feel better, Sam has been on Augmentin(very strong penicillin) for the last ten days, and a simpler penicillin for three days before that, to address his tonsillitis, and he still got this respiratory thing and it hasn't affected that virus at all.  Dr. O'Connell (our pediatrician at Cromwell) told me last week (before we got this thing) that there is a terrible bronchial virus that is especially nasty going around, and the ward at the hospital is full of little ones with complications from it.  Let's hope that riding it out at home is the worst we have to endure!
If you think Jou-Myu is getting worse and you want a second opinion, then I am happy to send you our pediatrician's info.  He has been very good to us!

Hello,

Apologies for touching a sensitive nerve.  Thank you all for the information.  I am well aware of the facts surrounding viral infections and antibiotics, especially with daily reminders from Yno!  Which is why Jou-Myu only ever had it once or twice in his life.  I am taking Jou-Myu to Italy this weekend on my own.  I don’t speak Italian, so I want to avoid seeking medical help whilst we are there if possible.

Thanks to those of you who have kindly offered your GP details.  Rest assured, if prescribed, we shall be responsible and would not contribute to increasing antibiotics resistance in the western world.

Hi everyone,

I am giving away two tickets for snow white tomorrow afternoon. I won't be able to go and was wondering if anyone would like them ? Because it is for a charity, i am happy to give them away.

I will leave them at reception with Claire later on.

Best,

Charlotte

Hi everybody, hope you are all having a wonderful summer.
Apologies for mass e-mail (especially to those no longer resident in the UK!!) but I'm in a childcare squeeze next week as Hettie is away and have been asked to attend a meeting on Tuesday from 10-1, so am looking for somewhere to dump (terrible thing to say, I know) Eddie and Rollo for a couple of hours so I can attend the meeting. I don't suppose that anyone is at home then and willing/able to host? I would gladly return the favour on another day...
Emma x
