Thanks Chris.

I have booked the hotel. There aren't many flights into Greenville thats for sure!

I am working through it and will get this booked before the price goes up. Have a great day!

Helen,

I'm sorry we have been playing cat and mouse!

We have uploaded recommended hotels to our website. As of right now no hotels have agreed to provide shuttle transportation but that is something you should be able to arrange.

Here are the airports in distance to Greenville,MS.

Greenville - 15 Miles
Jackson - 95 Miles
Little Rock - 120 Miles

We recommend flying into Jackson and Little Rock as flight are more abundant and have you will have fewer layovers.

I would still love to talk and will try calling you again tomorrow!

Thanks Helen!

Chris

Hi Chris... I tried to call last week and must have missed you. I am putting 14 miles on the books this morning but will try to call you again later today. I need to get this trip finalized next week if I can.

Basically I need to know a couple of hotels to choose from (would be nice if they shuttled from the start and finish) and what airports are close by.

I have potentially 3 or 4 who want to book this with me and I'm trying to provide information for them as well.

Hi Helen,

This is Chris Marsh, race director for the Mississippi River Marathon. I'm terribly sorry about the delay of hotel information but I would like to personally talk with you to see if I can answer your questions and get you the information you need. My cell phone is 801-673-8609 and you can call me anytime at your convenience. If I don't pick up, I'll return your phone call at the earliest possible opportunity. As far as Little Rock goes, it is just over a two hour drive to get to the Lake Village/Greenville area. There will be a shuttle service to the starting line for both the full and half marathon. We are still waiting to hear back from some of the hotels on what they are going to offer us. But I think I can help you make an informed decision on where to plan your stay.

Thanks Helen and we are thrilled you and your friends are going to be putting Florida on the map!

Hi Gentlemen...

Any progress with the host hotels? There are 3 of us from Florida who want to sign up but we need more information. We need to know if there will be shuttle service to the starting line.

If I fly into Little Rock how far is it to the starting line for the 1/2 Marathon?

You're going to love this course.

So glad you're willing to share your story. We'd like to start by submitting it to  http://slowisthenewfast.com/. This blogger is endorsing our race and I really think that her audience would love to hear your story. Here's what would be easiest for us.

Send us the story of how/why you got into running in a word document/ Try to use around 500-800 words. Include pictures and captions like what you see on the blog link I've sent to you. Make sure to include details on your plans to run the Mississippi River Half Marathon. Include the date, website, and why the course has significance to you (the bridge).

I look forward to seeing what you're able to come up with. It's going to be great. Thanks again for doing this Helen.

1/2 Marathon, not full. I did it, got the medal, and until I forget that pain.... will continue with 1/2's.

Yes, definitley let me know. My goal is to encourage other first time, out of shape, middle aged women... who want to change their lives.

Helen,

How inspirational! I actually forwarded the second paragraph to my father who five years ago was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic. I hope he finds the same inspiration in it that I did.

We were wondering if you would't mind letting us use your story. We're sure others will find it very inspirational. We have many partner blogs that expect guest posts from us, and we'd love to submit your story as that of a Mississippi River Marathon runner. I'll send details after you let me know what you think. You're story should be heard Helen.

One! I am a newbie runner. Never, never thought it was something I'd do. I do intervals, the Galloway method.  Bridges have become my mantra for life, my analogy for living. If you can run a bridge, you can get through anything. There's nothing like the feeling a the start of a bridge when you say "oh my God what am I thinking" and you end up on the other side saying "Oh my God, I did it"!

For me ... running has been about health. I lost 60 lbs in two years, lowered my cholesterol from 210 to 147, and my bp has never been lower. As a diabetic, I am off all medications and at my last Dr appt he said "you have the heart rate of a well conditioned athelete or a teenager". I chose "athlete". There was a time when I would never have considered that someone would call me even a runner.

I will check out those hotels. Have a friend who I've convinced to come run it with me! Still working on finding flights and deciding if I need a car or can just taxii to and from the hotel.

Love Bridges and hope to see many more in my future.

Hi Helen!

The finish line and bus pickup for the race will be right next to the corner of Washington Ave. and Walnut in Greenville. There is a comfort inn right across the street, as well as the Lighthouse Point Casino right on the other side of the levy. Those are the two closest hotels. We will be coming out with a list of hotels we recommend on our website within the next month so you can keep checking our website if you're not in any rush.

We're excited you are planning to come out and run! Have you ran a marathon before?
