Why is the ocean blue?

Great question!  Other wavelengths of light (e.g. red, orange, yellow, green, etc.) are more easily absorbed by the water.   Water scatters more of the blue light meaning that more of it is reflected back to your eyes.  As a result, you see more of the blue light coming off of the water than any of the other colors.
