The paperweight represents Winston and Julia's life. They are trapped
inside because they have to keep their secrets, knowledge, and ideas
trapped and enclosed from everyone else. When the paperweight is
falling it represents their lives changing and how everything that
they have learned and hidden is coming to an end. As the paperweight
falls and breaks, Winston and Julia's life comes to a halt, crash,
fall, and an end. Their secret is out. After the paperweight is
broken, it shows how their lives are now the same to their society.
Before, they knew things that no one else knew. Now, their lives are
and rights are the same as everyone elses. When the soldiers broke
in, it represented Winston and Julia's love and relationship being
broken. The glass shattered, and as one of the soldiers picked up a
piece of it, that represented the authority. There is and will always
be power, authority, and ruling over something someone does. There
will always be someone intruding and changing the choices of
society.
