Who is Comrade Ogilvy? What is his significance? What does his
"existence" do for the citizens of Oceania?

Comrade Ogilvy was created by Winston. Winston thought of recreating
someone through one of Big Brothers speeches. There were occasions
when he devoted his Order for the Day to some that were worthy to
him. Comrade Ogilvy was worthy because he had recently died in a
battle from a heroic circumstance, which Winston made up. He also
made a few fake photos and created a life for Comrade Ogilvy, which
was believable. He could create a dead man but not living ones. With
this information, Winston could change the present, change the future,
but he might get caught by the Thought Police, so he tells no one.
Winston curiously thinks about why people are erased, or vanished, but
he has to hide from asking these secret questions.

Comrade Olgilvy was created to inspire people to serve the community
and even die for it and to push them to try hard to make big brother
proud of you and work as good as comrade olgilvy did. They say he died
as a hero and they talk about his "fake" performances and
accomplishments. They say he served his country even when he was 3
years old and when he refused some toys, which is stupid because young
kids don't do that. They print faked photographs to prove that he is
real and people don't ask questions about him, they just respect him,
without any critical thinking. His existence proved to people that
they are some brave people at war and make citizens want to look like
him and become heroes too.

Comrade Ogilvy was a fictional character that Winston created
himself. He was very into the war and he recently had "died" in a
battle. Winston created him with a few written lines and a couple of
fake photographs. When he was younger, he was even intrigued by guns
and drums. He remained abstinent and was a nonsmoker, and was very
into family life. I think he created Ogilvy to maybe create a bigger
and better leader for Oceania. He was an inspiration for all of his
courageous acts during his wars. People looked up to him because he
was the epitome of a "hero." Winston wanted to create a likable hero
that people could relate to and would enjoy hearing about. On page
48, Winston says, "It struck him as curious that you could create dead
men but not living ones." Winston wants to create a character that
people will respect and he kind of finds it funny that he can make up
a fake person who is utterly amazing, but the ones that are alive, he
cannot recreate because they are already alive and he cannot make up
anything about them.

I agree with Brittany. Comrade Ogilvy was just a fictional character
created by Winston to get people to support big brother more. He was a
symbol of loyalty to big brother, and was created so other people
would do the same.

I agree with Caytee about comrade Oglivy. With the creation of Oglivy,
Winston could change the past, the future and the present. Oglivy is a
person that Winston created that is recreating another person from
Big brothers speeches. The existance that Oglivy does for Oceana is
that the one person finally did something that could make him be
vaporized and did something against Big Brother. Comrade Oglivy
recently died in the war and Winstonadded a few pictures in his
profile. I think he seems like a hero because of the war and how
courageous he was. Winston wanted to create a leader that everyone
admired so people can see that Big Brother is not always right.

Comrade Ogilvy already lived and died supposedly. He had refused toys
at a young age, joined the Spies and became the leader, designed a
hand grenade, and then was killed with honor at the age of twenty-
three in battle. Ogilvy was the perfect model of what Big Brother was
trying to make of its people. Behind all these lies and fake events
it turned out that Winston had made him up. It struck him as curious
that he could create dead men but not living ones. Then the book
talks about when Comrade Ogilvy is alive again he will be like
Charlemagne or Julius Caesar. These couple of sentences will be a
foreshadowing of what will happen later on in the book.

I agree with Brittany that he wanted to create Comrade Ogilvy so that
he could be a great leader for Oceania. Comrade Ogilvy existence in
this society, tries to make people believe in the "goodness" of Big
Brother and for everyone to obey and trust them. Ogilvy was such a
hero since he died for Big Brother and he wants to inspire the public
to die for them if they had to.

Comrade Ogilvy was created to take the place of Comrade Withers who
used to be a soldier in the war. Comrade Withers was vaporized for
crimes against the state and earlier in a proclamation by Big Brother
Withers looked like a really good guy. Winston had to get rid of all
evidence of Withers so Winston created Comrade Ogilvy who had just
died in the war. Comrade Ogilvy was a man that Big Brother would have
approved of. Many people would look up to him and want to know the
story. Comrade Ogilvy did not play with toys when he was younger. He
only played with a drum, a submachine gun, and a model helicopter. He
was once apart of the Spies, and quickly became a troop leader. He
gave his uncle up to the Thought Police. He was a district organizer
of the Junior Anti-Sex League. He designed a hand grenade that was
adopted by the Ministry of Peace. He had died honorably. Comrade
Ogilvy was a man that Big Brother would be very fond of.

I agree with Brittany Walker, Winston wanted to create someone that
the people of Oceania. He wanted the person to be the epitome of
someone that Big Brother would respect.

Comrade Ogilvy is an inspiration to the people of Oceania and a role
model. He is a hero to the kids who would like to grow up and help
out Big Brother as much as they can. He was created to make people
believe there is actually men in the army that would sacrifice their
lives for the people of Oceania. It puts hope ion the people that
this war will be over any time soon and that people like Comrade
Ogilvy will come home to them and continue inspiring the kids with
their stories of war. Comrade Ogilvy is a person that was made out to
be the perfect man. Loves his family, cares for his country, and is a
hard working man. This story about him will hopefully instill that
type of leadership into the other men of Oceania. Especially with Big
Brother commenting on his effort on the front, it will make him such a
better person.

Winston invents the named of Comrade Ogilvy, this was a product of
Winston's imagination, is an ideal Party man, opposed to sex and
suspicious of everyone. Comrade Withers has become an "unperson:" he
has ceased to exist to get people to support big brother more.

I agree with Stu and Britanny because
Comrade Ogilvy was a fictional character
created by Winston to get people to support big brother more. He was
a
symbol of loyalty to big brother, and was created so other people
would do the same.
