Winston may have suspicions, but Julia has had suspicions longer than
he has. Julia knows her way around better, than Winston. Julia and
Winston both know where the cameras are, but Julia takes them
seriously, and realizes that there could be more cameras but smaller.
Winston wants to know more about the past, than Julia. He finds a
"paper weight" which he wants to know more about. Julia looks at it
as if it is a remarkable finding, but that is as far as she goes. She
does not ask Winston about the history of it or where he found it.

Julia and Winston are both against the party but Julia and Winston
think of the party in different ways.Julia only really hates the party
when it does something to her or something that she believes in, while
Winston just plan hates the party because of what it stands for. Julia
does not care about the past and who will be reading the books and
magazines. Winston is the one who wants the past to be true and be
correct, he wants to know how it all started. Julia's personality and
thought process is different from Winston, Julia is more up beat like
a 20 year old should be she is not worried about the future or death,
when thats all Winston thinks about.

The only thing that Julie and Winston have in common is the feeling of
rebellion against the party and even that is different. Julia seems
to have more hatred against the party and wants to rebel and get away
with as much as she can while Winston does not agree with everything
of the party but still does not want to die for not obeying the
laws.

Julia has a lot more experience in relationships, sex, and scandals.
These experiences make Julia have more suspicions that Winston.
However, Winston just investigates clues and hidden objects more
thoroughly. When Winston and Julia were talking about the church of
St. Clement's and Winston wanted to go more in detail how Julia knew
that rest of the phrases. He wanted to figure out the whole phrase
and get to the bottom of it. Julia acted like it was not that big of
a deal and just wanted to go on with what they were doing.

First and foremost, Winston is a dude and Julia is a dudette, but that
goes without saying. No but seriously, Julia is more actively fighting
"them". She openly admitted to Winston that she has ran the bases with
other men and this would qualify as an act against the party. Winston
is a lot more passive, and keeps his thoughts bottled up. He wants to
do something against the party, but does not know who he can talk to
or who is on his side. With that, Winston is afraid to approach people
that he thinks may be against the party, where Julia is not afraid to
make the first move to seek out other people that may be against the
party. It also seems that Winston is always living in a constant state
of fear of the the party. He has to carefully chose his actions so he
does not get in trouble. Julia does not seem to have this innate fear
of death, so she lives life more freely than Winston. Julia also is
not as susceptible to propaganda as Winston is. Some things never
occurred to Winston as propaganda that Julia was able to spot as being
propaganda.

Julia is obviously more open about her hatred to the party. Winston
likes to keep it inside because he fears getting caught. Julia kind
of lives life as it comes while Winston worries about when the Thought
Police could get him for his unlawful thinking. I definately agree
with what Stuart said about how Julia understands propoganda and
perceives it in a better way than Winston ever could.

I agree whole heartedly with Tecya. She has said is all. Julia and
Winston really have nothing in common. They both want to rebell
against the Party. Julia's way to beat the party is by having sex with
Party members. Winston's way of getting back at the party is writing
in his diary, buying objects from the past, and making faces at
telescreens.

Winston would rather get a look back into the past. He wants to know
what the Party has hidden from the rest of the world. Julia would
rather not look at the past and she only wants to look at the future.
Winston hates the party and thinks it wise to really not do anything
outside of work. Julia, however, would rather get into everything the
Party has and look like a good Party girl. She barely has anything
outside of work because she is into everything the Party is.

I totally agree with Courtney. First of all, Julia is a lot younger
than Winston is and she doesn't care about the past and why Winston is
so upset by what the Party is hiding from people (for example when he
told her that he had some proof that the Party lied about Jones,
Aaronson and Rutherford). She doesn't think that it is a big of a deal
that people find out about the truth while it is Winston's wish.
Winston was born before the Revolution and know a lot more than her
about the "normal" life. Winston knows that the world didn't use to be
like that and he hate the Party for that. Julia hates the party
because she thinks that some rules are stupid, like forbidding sex and
she just acts like she can do whatever she wants without being
punished. The only thing that they have in common is that they both
want to rebel and Julia knows a little bit about the past because of
her grandfather who told her some stories. Julia says that she knows
if people are trustful just by looking in their eyes while Winston is
scared of everybody (except for O'Brien). I also agree with Stu when
he says that Julia doesn't fear the party while Winston is completely
scared of it.

Julia is a very open person and does not care what others may think of
her, we found this out after she gave Winston the note. She takes
chances that may be risky but she loves that and that is how she lives
her life. Julia is an outgoing person who lives on the edge and takes
many risks. Winston is a paranoid person who does not try to do
anything out of the ordinary out of fear of being caught by the
Thought Police and be vaporized. He does not take many risks and is
always worried that someone is going to rat them out or find out about
the love affair. Winston is careful about what he says a does when
Julia could care less. She openly and freely states how much she
hates this or that while Winston does his best to keep his anger
hidden.

I agree with Brittany, Julia is obviously more experienced than
Winston is. All they have in common is the desire to defy Big Brother
and they obviously both do this through sex. Julia knows that there is
more out there and that there is something to live for. Winston is
skpetical in some ways.

another example also is that Julia did not even noticed during the war
when the ennemies changed (Oceania was at war with Eastasia ans at
peace with Eurasia). that means that she doesn't care that much about
the truth.

Julia seems a shows her hate more thatn Winston because he fears of
getting caught. Julia is more of a rebel than Winston. She breaks the
rules by sleeping around with Party memebers while Winston hasn't done
a lot of things wrong except not creating that guy and writting in the
diary.

Julia is a younger than Winston, and julia is more rebel than Winston
about the Big Brother and things that he says.
Julia and Wisnton are against the party, but Julia hates the party
more than Winston.

The contrast between Winston and Julia is at its strongest as Winston
reads to her from the manifesto in Chapter IX. Their reactions to the
content succinctly reflect their personalities. While Winston finds
the book to be a thrilling, joyful discovery and can hardly wait to
devour it, Julia remains relatively uninterested, even falling asleep
while Winston reads. Winston continues to seek an overall explanation
of the Party's control over the present and the past. Julia, on the
other hand, continues to seek personal pleasure in the present, not
concerning herself with the larger and more abstract questions about
her existence.
