After reading what Emmanuel Goldstein preached on page 12, describe
Winston's state of mind as well as the other citizens of Oceana at the
Two Minute Hate. How did they become accustomed to this belief and
ideology?

Everyday at the same time for all of their lives they see this
show and it pretty much says the same thing over and over again. The
people do not know any better than what they see on television.
Winston at first does nothing about what Goldstein is saying on the
television but after a while he eventually falls into the chanting
around him and begins doing the same thing. The same way that happens
is probably how they all began believing the same thing. One person
could tell one other person something and soon enough everyone
believes it. In this type of community they all feed off of one
another. If one says something than the next believes it. Just like
Winston was calm and not yelling like everyone else, but eventually he
fell into line along with everyone else. People in Oceana have to
feed off of some type of hatred because everything else seems to be
perfect, it is as if there is hardly ever a problem, except every once
in a while a sink is over flowed.

During the two-minute hate I think Winston started to realize how
stupid his government is. He knew that a child could have seen
Goldstein attack but the government didn't see it. At the same time
though Winston wants to believe that Goldstein in the enemy, he only
bleives that because of the subliminal messages that he sees every
day. Winston, I think wants to believe that Goldstein is bad and a
horrible man but he is trying to figure out why people hate him so
much. Yeah he tried to take down the government but is that what
really happened? This is what is going through his head on page
12.What is funny about this page is that Goldstein was advocating
freedom of press, freedom of speech, and freedom of thought. Obviously
that is what Big Brother is doing the people just cannot see that.
People here only came to this belief because of subliminal messages,
also that is the only thing that they know and chose to remember.

I agree with Courtney, I think Winston sees that the government is way
too controlling and sees that it is out of control. He has been
supporting the party for so long that he does it now out of instinct,
not so much free will and after hearing Goldstein, his looks at
Goldstein with an open mind on the issues and looks at his situation
from Goldstein's perspective. He has to fight the urge to think that
Goldstein is bad because he was brainwashed to support Big Brother.
The other citizens, however, are still firm believers in the party and
do not like Goldstein for speaking out against the party.

Everyone seemed to hate Goldstein even though Winston explained him as
a person who he could talk to i a dark room. I think everyone hates
Winston because they are being controlled to by messages sent to them
by Big Brother because Winston is advocating freedom of speech, press
and other freedoms. Winston has been a supporter of the Party for so
long that he does not know how or even if he can pull out and he might
not even want to just because he has been brainwashed and he thinks
Goldstein is a bad guy. In their type of brainwashing by these
messages it was easy for Winston to loose himself and start chanting
against Goldstein because everyone else was doing it too.

So, in oceania they can't say nothing against the government or
Party. They dont dont have the freedom to do whatever they want.
So Winston is against the party but he cant show it, because if they
show it he will get in trouble.
They have to be in Party's side because if they arent in the party's
side they are going against the party ,so they have to covers them
beliefs and ideology.
