The Friends of Emma Long Motorcycle Park to address the Austin City Council
After years of battling false science, it’s time for city to face the facts
Friends of Emma Long Motorcycle Park have been at odds with the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve, managers of Emma Long Motorcycle Park, for three years, and the American Motorcyclist Association has been there nearly the entire time. We’re now asking you to join the cause by supporting the local riders’ first-ever presentation to the Austin City Council, scheduled for Oct. 13.
The Friends of Emma Long Motorcycle Park case is compelling:
- Clearly worded official documents mandating motorcycle use
- Debunked endangered species claims
- Mysterious shuffling of maps and
- Years of misrepresentation of facts by discredited managers.
You can learn more about the park on the Austin Parks page here. Look for “Motorcycle and Mountain Biking Trails info” near the bottom of the page, above “History.”
It’s our hope to get as many motorcycle enthusiasts as possible to attend the hearing in a show of support for Friends of Emma Long Motorcycle representatives as they explain the facts. The more professional you appear and the more respectful you are of the political process, the more compelling our argument will be that the park is used by people who understand the issues and are sincere in their intentions to be good stewards of the resource.
If the distance is too great or the time of day too difficult, be sure to tell all of your friends to try to attend. Our facts are persuasive, but our ace in the hole is a big turnout to make a positive impression on City Council members and the local press. You can make the difference.
When: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13
Where: City Council meeting room, Austin City Hall, 301 W. Second St., Austin, Texas. The entrance to free parking is on Guadalupe Street. Be sure to get your ticket validated on the first floor of City Hall.
For more information, contact Friends of Emma Long Motorcycle Park co-founder Tomas Pantin in Austin by phone at (512) 474-9968 or by email at KeepPa...@gmail.com.
Thank you in advance for attending. If you have any thoughts on the meeting or process you’d like to share with the AMA, please do so by emailing us at grass...@amacycle.org.
Again, please forward this alert to all of your friends and ask them to attend this meeting, too. Now more than ever, it is crucial that you and your riding friends become members of the AMA to help protect our riding freedoms. More members mean more clout against the opponents of motorcycling. That support will help fight for your rights – on the road, trail and racetrack and in the halls of government.
