    1. Discuss how power functions in 'A Doll's House.'
    2. Discuss the sacrificial role of women in 'A Doll's House'
    3. In Act One, Mrs. Linde describes Nora as “a child.” Is this assessment of Nora’s state of development valid?
    4. How do the characters in A Doll’s House use the words “free” and “freedom”?
    5. In what way does A Doll's House explore social issues?

    Class Notes:

    • Ibsen foreshadows later developments in the play by....
    • It could be argued that Nora is in a state of arrested development
    • The macaroons function as a symbol of libidinal desire that has been repressed.
    • Nora can be viewed as a symptom of a larger cause in the form of Torvald.
    • Everyone in the play can be be viewed as a victim in some respect. The play explores the the notion that within a capitalist system there are more losers than winners.
    • The key mechanism in this act is dramatic irony. The audience knows that....
    • Power structures with the play: Hierarchical, patriarchal, gender, capitalist
