The purpose of this lesson is to read exemplar (v. good) pieces of writing and then to pull out sentences, phrases and words that you can use in your own writing to improve it.

Tasks:

  1. Open this document:  “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" analysis
  2. Click 'File' - Make a copy. This document will now be stored in your own Google Drive
  3. Now read through this document and pick out new analytical phrases that you like eg. In developing his themes in “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner,” Coleridge masterfully expresses concepts through the use of symbols and imagery. Much of the imagery is breathtaking, and the poet’s intense descriptions leave a lasting imprint on the reader.
  4. Create your document 'New analytical phrases and vocab.' and copy and past your new sentences into it. (Like the one in yellow above)
  5. you should end up with a new document with 10 or 15 new phrases you can use in your writing.

EXTENSION WORK/PREP:

Read this document In-depth analysis of 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner' and add more sentences to you document.
