MQTT Dashboard recommendations

Hi all.

I have been playing around with Freeboard as a tool to create visualisations of MQTT data.

i.e. I added the Paho JavaScript client and Al Stockdill-Mander's MQTT plugin.

It works reasonably well.

However, as with all dashboard / visualisation / presentation tools there is a trade-off between ease of use and flexibility. I'm looking for something a little more flexible.

My only requirement is that it be web based, and work with any standard MQTT broker.

Any recommendations?

Of course I checked out the Tools page from mqtt.org.

* mqtt-svg-dash and mqtt-panel seem quite similar, in that the possibilities are only bounded by your own JavaScript skills.

* ThingStudio seems promising. But again I get the feeling that if I want better widgets (e.g. pan/zoom on time-series data) then I will need to learn a JavaScript library.

I have a basic software engineering background, but mainly Python. Zero Javascript.

My own first instinct is use the Paho Python client with something like

* IPython / Jupyter Notebook

* Remi

Anyone doing something similar?

Or should I just bite the bullet and learn how to use a library like D3.js?

I was able to use mqtt plugin with splunk for real time plots. Of course, d3.is is top notch! I would love to follow your experiments with mqtt and d3.
