mqtt in visual basic

I use AdvancedHMI for all of my control screens. It uses Visual Basic and I would like to use MQTT with it. I run a local broker with credentials and I can't seem to get it to work. I have found a few examples out there but none work for me. I'm a novice with visual basic but this shouldn't be that big of a ordeal. Does anyone have any examples that I could look at? I just basically need to subscribe to a few topics and display them as labels.
