Is anyone working on a standard (or standardizable) approach for Device Management using MQTT?

I'm thinking about something like OMA-DM, except simpler and more JSON-ey :-)

I'm very interested, Paul. What would be especially nice would be a faithful mapping from an existing standard that's already in use to show how it could be implemented over MQTT. Otherwise inventing standards out of whole cloth without rough consensus and running code is not a good use of time and energy.

the one I spotted a while back is OMA LW DM (Light weight device management).  It has bindings to COAP over UDP and SMS.  Might be interesting to have a binding to MQTT.  There is an open source implementation in eclipse. http://iot.eclipse.org/protocols.html#oma-lwm2m

All the best

Hey Paul,

We are working on OMA-DM similar/compatible over MQTT  !  It absolutely need to be simpler than OMA-DM.
We used <CMD> , <Target> & <Data> structure and pass JSON to deviceID/DM topic.

I am very interested in development of standard framework.

That is great. That is certainly one of the thoughts I had. How about converting the OMA Lightweight M2M to work over MQTT instead of CoAP?

Vatsal,
Didn't hear back from you again. Tried your mobile number of times too. What's the update?

Nagesh

Sent from phone. Pardon brevity and lingiuistic mistakes.

Hi Paul,
We can adapt Lightweight M2M DM but there are some challenges on object / resources side.
Who will define standard objects ? ( similar to OMNA) or we map IPSO objects.
Any thoughts on how they follow MQTT topic hierarchy ?

Are you proposing full DM or simple connectivity management framework ?

Regards,
Vatsal Shah

I'm looking to do the full set of capabilities including device registration, firmware updates, location updates and other notifications and object updates.

Looks like the Kura project implements some of this functionality:

http://www.slideshare.net/Eurotechchannel/eth-advanced-mqttandkuraeclipsecon2014
https://www.eclipsecon.org/na2014/sites/default/files/slides/Carrer_Clark_EclipseCON2014.ppt

It would be great to know if there are other open source efforts on this.
