to Police Academy of Maldives
The academy intends to conduct a TNA (Training Needs Assessment) for
the year 2010. Although research and preparatory work are being done
for this task, your ideas and contribution would be of great help. So
far we have been highly focused on the initial training of police
(recruit course) and other inservice courses conducted had been
primarily pushed by respective departments.

For the year 2010, the academy wishes to deliver training that is more
relevant to operational policing. Another priority would be given to
the up skilling of those who have had their initial training. We
intend to make every officer within operational policing areas to
undergo prescribed number of hours in critical components such as law,
procedure and critical skills (communication, operational safety and
tactics etc). Apart from this we intend to have a re-designed Crime
Investigation training with inputs from the Scottish Police College.
The Scottish Police College already conducts an International
Vocational Award:Certificate in Crime Investigation which is of 3
weeks. We would incorporate local laws and procedures into this course
and make it the level one course in the efforts to professionalize
investigation.

Prior to the conduct of the TNA, I can tell you that in year 2010 the
academy would be conducting the below described courses:

1. Operational Enhancement (basically targeting all frontline officers
in operational areas)
2. Crime Investigation (targeting potential investigating officers
fitting into a prescribed criteria)
3. Neighborhood Police Officers (targeting capital and regional
police)
3. Supervisory and Management Skills Level 1 (targeting officers
holding ranks from Corporal to Chief Station Inspector)
4. Senior Leadership Development Program (for heads and deputy heads
of departments)
5. International Commanders Programme (ICP - conducted in the UK, for
department heads)
6. International Strategic Leadership Programme (ISLP - conducted in
the UK, for heads of commands)

Other courses would include those seen critical for other policing
functions.

Please give us your thoughts on our intentions.

Best regards
