Hi all,

I'm working on customizing a theme for a client which features a video background.  I modified the theme to use video served through a CDN for improved background.  Currently, I'm just using my Amazon Cloudfront account, but the client will need to register for some sort of CDN service when the site is live.  Right now I just have the Cloudfront URL hardcoded into my theme.

Does anyone know of a plugin or method that lets users upload videos to a CDN through the Wordpress Admin in a fairly painless way?  I'm flexible on which CDN service I use as long as the price point makes sense for only serving a few videos.

Why not put the video on the site (WP Media Library) and just use a pull zone at the CDN for the entire site?

Solves the “upload issue” and improves the overall site speed.

https://www.keycdn.com/ is my current favorite: pay as you go, HTTP2 support, and free SSL.

Automattic hosts VideoPress which you can connect to a wordpress.org site via the JetPack plugin. The plugin is free but VideoPress is a premium service that you will have to pay for. Your videos are stored on a CDN. I haven't used it so I don't know how easy it is to use. It also needs to integrate with a Wordpress.com account.

Here's a review of Jetpack.

Hi all,

Thanks for responding.  Neither of these solutions quite works for me.   Using Jetpack + Videopress seems like it would work, but it does require purchasing a monthly business account through wordpress.com, which doesn't make sense from a financial perspective to deliver a few videos.  Nick's solution using KeyCDN or another service that pulls your entire site through a CDN seems more promising.  The problem is that I'm hosting through WP Engine (which I probably should've mentioned before) and, by default, they don't allow video uploads to their sites.  Maybe there is a way I can contact them to force videos through.  WP Engine also has a built in CDN service (actually I think they use Key CDN), but it also doesn't make sense from a financial perspective.

I may just end up continuing to use Cloudfront.  The client won't be changing out these videos often and can either contact me to do it or possibly do it themselves.  Does anyone have a recommendation for a CDN like Cloudfront with a more user-friendly admin panel?

Could you just use Vimeo for hosting your videos? I did something similar for a client and we're just using a Vimeo Pro account to host the videos. On the theme side of things I just added an ACF field where they can put a link to the video that they'd like to use as their background. Just extract out the video id and place it into the content. Here's a working example...

If you're looking to have them make use of the media library to handle the uploading of the videos it might not work for you, but it doesn't add a whole lot of complexity to the end user and will get rid of your video bandwidth woes.

Thanks,
Marty
