Urbanization is happening at an unprecedented pace across the world. By 2050, about 70% of the world’s total population will reside in cities,
placing opportunities and challenges on governments, city planners, and citizens from various perspectives.
The concept of Smart Cities has emerged over the past decade and gained increasing popularity with the ubiquitous presence of internet and internet-connected phones
worldwide. Smart Cities aims to leverage both ICT and non-ICT innovations, enhance or replace existing infrastructure, making it smarter to improve the capacity of the city to better cope with challenges urban community is facing. More specifically, it improves
sustainability, economic viability and citizen well-being using innovative solutions for urban management, energy, transport, water and waste management, and governance, etc.
In collaboration with city leaders and stakeholders, the World Bank Group has long been committed to optimizing city services and management via
a range of smart city solutions. The Smart Cities Knowledge Silo Breaker (KSB) aims to facilitate knowledge sharing and dissemination on Smart Cities across the World Bank Group.
