Dear All

You are invited to a seminar by Prof. Dan Slobin titled "Language and
Cognition: Why Does It Matter?" on Tuesday 22nd October 2013 at 3.30 pm
in the Committee Room of the Department of Humanities and Social
Sciences, IIT Delhi.

Dan Slobin is Professor Emeritus of Psychology and Linguistics
University of California, Berkeley. He has studied early child language
development in a number of languages. This research has led him to
questions of linguistic relativity and its consequences. The lecture
will be an overview of work on this theme, beginning with child language
and going on to consider linguistic differences in various types of
language use, such as narrative, conversation, literary and forensic
translation, and news reporting. Cognitive consequences for mental
imagery and memory will be examined.
