Wish you all a very Happy and Prosperous New Year!

I am writing to make a request before you and seeking your help in realising my demand.

You may all be aware that my region Ladakh was recently granted Union Territory status by the Central Government. I welcome and thank Sh. Narendra Modi ji for accepting the long standing demands of our senior leaders since few years post Independence. In recent years, the demand for Union Territory along with Legislature became prominent with the objective of being centrally administered while having the power to form our own rules best suited to the region. However, Ladakh has been given Union Territory without Legislature nor included in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution leading to widespread anxiety, insecurity and frustration.

Ladakh is a unique place in India with vast amount of cold desert which makes our eco-system very fragile and unique. We have few and scarce resources and life in extreme weather condition sometimes makes it unbearable and tough. Further, our ethnicity, culture, tradition, language, beliefs and customs, geography, climate etc is different from the rest of the country which makes us a crucial contribution to the diversity of this country. 

In the wake of the recent political development and lack of Constitutional safeguard, all of the above including demography, employment, land and means of livelihood stands threatened. And therefore, it becomes imperative that I do my very best to protect the interest of my people, region and everything that preserves its unique existence. 

With this objective, I would like to request you all to please push for inclusion of Ladakh in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India and help preserve our unique region. 

You may spread it further in your networks or advocate the same through your organisations, blogs, writings or cover stories with the vision of Ladakh in the Sixth Schedule with suitable subjects. 

People of Ladakh shall be most grateful!
