Dear Team
Request all to please start circulating the attached application format, google link and selection criteria mentioned in the trailing mail to call for entries for the 500 educated youth we are targeting to invite in SAMVAAD. Spread it far & wide so that we get maximum entries to then later screen and find out the best 500.
We will also have to start the telephonic interview process as entries keep coming.

With Regards

Dear Mam

Hi and Johar, It was wonderful talking to you today and look forward to your support and association in SAMVAAD

The way we have planned Samvaad this year is as follows:
As discussed, the theme for SAMVAAD this year will be around Youth, especially 'Aspirations of Tribal Youth and Leadership for Future'. We are planning to invite selected 500 tribal youth from various parts of India. Through the mornings, we shall try to take them on an inward journey, of self introspection, of reflection. Later, we will have some inspiring talks by people who have worked with tribal communities and whose lives have been an inspiration. Post lunch, the youth could opt for one of 10 parallel workshops over four days, which would empower them with some tools that they could go back with, to their own areas. And in the evenings, there will be a celebration of  "tribalness" - of their music, dance, cuisines, handicrafts, traditional medicines, indigenous sports, etc.

These would all be educated and enlightened youth who have already demonstrated some leadership in their sphere of work. They would be students, development practitioners, research scholars, activists, free lancers, community leaders, etc. We plan to select them through nominations from partner organisations and networks across the country, followed by a written application and telephonic interview. Another way in which we will identify these youth is through the regional Samvaads that we are organizing in South, West, Central and North-East India in between August and September 2017.

The criteria we have kept for selection are as follows:
1)      S/he must be from a tribal community
2)      Within age limit of 21 – 30 Years
3)      Minimum Educational Qualification of  atleast 12th pass (Preferably Graduate)
4)      Conversant with atleast Hindi and/or English
5)      Some demonstrated leadership qualities in past within their communities.
6)      Not more than five participants from each tribe/ max. 25 from one state.
7)      We will arrange for their to & fro train journey in sleeper class or same can be reimbursed.
8)      Will provide a fixed amount as Incidental Charges only during the days of travel.
9)      Food & Accommodation will be taken care of during the tenure of the programme.

Please find an application format attached should you like to circulate among interested communities. In case people want to use the google form a link is available too.

About SAMVAAD

In the best traditions of India’s indigenous peoples, "Samvaad" encourages dialogues, discussions and dissent and celebrates the very essence of being tribal. Tata Steel takes great pride in hosting this one-of-its-kind forum at Jamshedpur in Jharkhand from 15th to 19th of November annually. Every year, this event commences on the 15th of November, the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, the legendary tribal hero who is revered as Bhagwan Birsa across the tribal belt of the country.

Samvaad is a forum for communities to come together; -bring collective wisdom under one roof so as to stimulate an exchange and cross-pollination of ideas; -document a body of knowledge and a world-view that runs the risk of being obliterated; -understand the issues and the angst of tribal communities, and sensitize non-tribals towards the same, thereby creating empathy and understanding, and -removing prejudices; and highlight success stories of individuals and organizations that can inspire and create a sense of hope and positivity.

Samvaad was born in 2014 in an environment where more than 1500 tribals from across the country were eager to proudly showcase their cultural heritage to the world; and those witness to this unique conclave were equally eager to immerse themselves in a novel experience of tribal life.

Buoyed by its success, Tata Steel hosted Samvaad 2015 with a specific theme of ‘Tribal Languages’ to celebrate the beauty and richness of various languages, their literature and the wisdom ingrained in them and to underline the need to preserve the same. Both editions of Samvaad met with resounding success with participation of scholars, thinkers, artists, development practitioners, and activists – both from the tribal as well as non-tribal communities – from more than 20 states across the country.

The theme for Samvaad 2016 was ‘Tribal Health Systems’. A host of events were organized around this theme:
a) Panel discussions on various facets like Diseases afflicting tribal populations, Tribal medicinal systems, Tribal nutrition, etc.

b) Stalls for traditional tribal healers to display their medicines, where visitors were able to learn about these medicines and even try them out.

c) Paper presentations by research scholars and students on the various facets of tribal health as listed above, and

d) As a prelude to the main event, regional Samvaads were organized in three parts of the country - West India (Baroda), South India (Mysore) and North-East India (Shillong). These were one and a half day events in which one session was also around Tribal Health Systems.

Some of the eminent names that have associated themselves with Samvaad are Padmashri Ganesh Devy, Padmashri Tulasi Munda, Padmashri Shantha Sinha, Padmashri Jadav Payeng, Padmashri Sentila Yanger, Dr S Parasuraman, Bishop Nirmal Minz, Prof Virginius Xaxa, Felix Padel, Oinam Doren, Dr R Balasubramanium, Dr Abhay Bang, Pramod Bodo, Simon Oraon, Narayan Hegde, among several others.

This year, the regional Samvaads would be at the following places:

a) South India - Wayanad, Kerala

b) West India - Netrang, Bharuch, Gujarat

c) North-East - Guwahati, Assam

d) Central - Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh
