Dear Friends,
Johar! and trust this finds you well.
I was writing in to introduce the Tribal Leadership Programme (TLP), which is aimed at identifying and fostering leaders from all corners of tribal India.
TLP, initiated through a residential programme followed by other engagements over the subsequent 12 months, was launched in 2017 for young women and men from tribal communities who have inculcated the best of tribal value systems, feel strongly for the tribal discourse in India and want to work towards positive societal change. The programme will bring together these youngsters on a one-of-its-kind platform to learn, co-learn and share stories of their successes, failures and inspiration, while connecting with diverse but similarly motivated peers. It also provides an opportunity to connect with experts and potential mentors to enable rich learning on leadership for social change. Over the last two editions, the programme has seen 185 youngsters from across 22 states and representing 89 tribes of India come together to create a cohort, with each one of them working for a change they believe in, strengthening the tribal discourse in India.
TLP is a key component of Samvaad (founded in 2014) which is a humble effort of Tata Steel to offer tribal communities a platform to represent their perspective on development aspects, their culture and heritage through stimulating exchange of ideas, understanding issues impacting indigenous communities and highlighting models that have worked to address the same. Samvaad, thus far, has met with resounding success with the participation of more than 5,000 scholars, thinkers, artists, development practitioners, and activists both from the tribal as well as non-tribal communities from 27 states across the country and more than 17 countries world over. The leadership qualities demonstrated by participants during this dialogue triggered the need to structure a programme that specifically focuses on building on this skill, thus establishing TLP in 2017.
The third edition of TLP (for 2019) is here and, we wish to bring this programme to a wide array of tribal youngsters across the length and breadth of this country with the belief that more young minds joining this journey will be a catalyst in creating a progressive nation.
A brief outline of TLP 2019 and application form are enclosed. It would be lovely if you could share this within the communities you work with and help take this programme to the many wonderful youngsters who are out there.
